Default Do the thought of HONDA DEALERS **** you off???

all right, I was browsing around the site and went over to the RSX site...turns out that a dealer blew 3 RSX engines and now they wanna keep it on the Down Low...

This pisses me off because for one, some salesmans and mechanics cannot even afford to own the cars that they sell and work on respectively. Can you believe that some lucky stiff gets to drive an s2k or Prelude or ITR just because they work at the dealer. Many hard working people still cannot afford to buy a Prelude or ITR or S2k. I myself have a job and can barely afford my car, I have sat in an s2k but never been able to drive one. But then there are some service managers, mechanics and salesmans that get to drive these cars at least once a week even if only a few feet or yards...only because they work there and only because a customer needs work done on their car.....!!!

THIS IS PART OF THE REASON why i do my own autowork...sorry about the caps...

They might get to drive those cars but when you work at a new car dealership unless your the owner, you have to put up with a lot of sh*t from people over you and the customer. Thats why salesmen and managers are always getting fired or quitting and going to other dealerships. Very few stay at the same dealership more than a couple of months.

Get over it dude. It is one of the few perks car salesmen get.

Not to flame you jayson, but I do believe this is the 2nd time in a week you "dissed" us dealership people, so just to make you feel a little better, I'm gonna give you a little insight ( no pun intended ) to what I actually do everyday..

My primary job is to make certain that all "new" and "used" cars in our inventory are "road ready" for the consumers that may be interested in purchasing a particular vehicle.. make sure the car runs smooth, no rattles/squeeks, no warning indicators lit, etc,etc..
We have approx 400 cars in inventory and I have access to the keys of each and every car.. I am required by the dealership and by AHM to drive these cars for a minimum of 10 miles..
I love to drive the brand new S2000's, I jump in them, put the top down, put in my favorite "Bizkit" CD and go cruisin' for awhile.. ( chicks dig these things!) I take them home and park them in my driveway when I'm on lunch.. go out grocery shopping w/ them... just like the average consumer.. and you know what the best part is? I get paid for doing all this!

Don't feel bad for not having the oppurtunity that others may have.. I know how you feel.. I've always wanted to be a CEO for Disney and make $20,000 a day, but I got stuck with this crummy job!

That's all well and good. If the car belongs to the dealership (new or used), then I could care less who drives it. All I care about is what's mine. I took my car to the dealership once for an oil change. To kill time, I decided to walk around the new car lot, and what do I see blasting out of the parking lot past me? My fu@king car! I used to work at a dealership too, so I know that test drives aren't done simply for oil changes...I was enraged. I came within 2 seconds of beating the **** out of that service tech, and having him fired, but he was scared sh!tless, and I was kinda flattered that he risked everything just to drive my car, so I let him off with a warning. If anyone else ever tries something like that, I'm not going to be that easygoing. Just to keep the chances of that happening again, I don't go to dealerships anymore.

sounds like someone is being a whiner... if you're so mad about them getting to drive these cars why don't you become a mechanic yourself? that would certainly solve the problem.

And you sound like someone who opens their mouth when they don't have a clue about what's going on. I always love it when people who don't know me make judgements on what I can and can't do, so let me set the record straight. First of all, I'm a shadetree mechanic for myself, my friends, and my family, so I know how to work on a car (shadetree meaning I have most of the tools, and can do most of the work, but I don't want to do it full time, so screw ASC Certification). Second, I took my car to the dealership for an oil change because my sister wanted me to show her what she would have to go through there, since I was taking too long to take care of the maintenance on her car. Third, I used to work at a dealership, so I could care less about who drives around a DEALER OWNED car, and when they drive it...I don't like punk kids driving MY car, that I pay for with MY money, driving around MY car without MY permission...get it?

Regardless of what you may think, the car business is one of the most difficult ones to prosper in. The turn over for most dealerships around here is over 80%. There are not many business where each week at the sales meetings there is new Management. As far as dealer demos are concerened, I'm a manager and I don't even get one. Sales people on my lot are not allowed to take the cars out other than to test drive. Some dealerships are completely different in that brass hat cars are all to common. But if you worked in a business where your job was constantly threatend and "job security" is a complete joke, wouldn't it be nice to be given a car to drive around every now and then. I'm fortunate enough to work in a dealership that has less than a 10% turn over, but I still don't bother to learn someones name if they haven't been around for more than a couple months.

i work at an acura dealership at night as a second job, and it's not quite like you went off about. we are the biggest acura/honda dealer in new england so it's always quite busy - too busy for people to just be ripping off in other people's cars for fun. plus the management here has it on lockdown so that nothing stupid happens. on the other hand, they are very trusting with their people. i'm only a valet/cashier, yet i have my own password for the keytrack to make it easier on them to have me get keys on my own to move stuff. i bring cars out back after customers drop them off, etc. believe me, for every kid you might see driving like a maniac around the lot (he won't be for long, but that's another matter), there are people like me who just move cars to get a check. i'm careful with everyone's car and drive it like i would my own. everything from a pos 1990 legend to the nsx's that come in. it sucks having to get a car in the rain. or snow. or when it's been sitting outside in the sun when it's 95 deg. all day long. or 5 minutes before we close and some guy wants to come get his car. or when you have 3 people all asking you about their car at the same time. or some guy bitching at you when you're just a valet. but what can you do? smile, bend over further and tell them to please come again. so as much as you're bitching about a bad experience or two, things can be just as bad on the other side...
