Since I got my Type-R a few months ago I have been constantly debating on how to go performance wise. For a little while I was thinking turbo for raw power then all motor for reliabilty. At some times I thought about going the cheap route. Buying only middle of the line products so that I would have money to purchase several parts instead of blowing it all on one ultra expensive item. I have been thinking for some time and have finally decided the basic route to go. The Integra Type-R is a highly tuned, race bred machine from the factory that uses hondas most advanced and highest quality parts. I think buying performance parts that are on the cheap or mediocre side are not doing the ITR, and honda justice. As of now I am planning to go MUGEN with my ITR. It may take me several years to complete ,but I would rather have to wait and have a finely honed driving machine than settle for a middle of the line car that I could have alot sooner. I now believe that I would be much happier with a car with all-around performance enhancements, not just go fast parts. I know Mugen can not satisfy all of my power needs ( I will most likely go to TODA/Spoon/JUN for that) but the parts they offer seem to be of a quality that truely suits the ITR's nature. If any of you have differnce of opinions or other ideas I would appreciate them. I know Mugen is expensive (ok, really expensive), but I believe that their quality is worth the money spent.
I've run both the Mugen and Spoon headers (JDM spec) and like the Spoon better. The Mugen had a tinny resonance at about 3K rpm that would not go away and took away from the mellow sound of the motor. Power output is "about" the same for both - mind you some people get excited about a couple of horsepower difference around here - so you may get some contradictory opinions. Otherwise, I've really liked all the Mugen mods I have.
Mugen/Spoon/Toda/etc is great and all, but forgot one thing... why are you doing this? To compete in a autoX? To run at the drag strip? To race at a track? Or, simply to street race? It would help you out if you know which area you want to excel in... different races calls for different mods.
go for it - I chose the route I wanted to go, and Super DC2, I'll give myself a pat for ya? I'm damn proud to be a JDM freak
I've heard about this one guy in europe pushing well over 210-220 WHP with mugen mods & stock cams (very, very high compression though) his email is alex.woods@inwind.it , he claims it was dyno'd at the FLYWHEEL 267HP (feel free to raise the BS flag but try emailin' him beforehand) I forget his website address and I am NOT claiming his numbers are true either

Like it was mentioned before, EPGONZALES will be some one that can give you good advice on MUGEN parts. If I remember correctly he had 207whp untuned with stock cams. Hope he reads this & responds to your question, good luck.
i believe that mugen took the whole car into consideration before making parts..made a few improvements bet kept things reliable..may not be the cheapest route..but a sure thing..no guess work involved..everything works and fits like oem parts..
damn that yellow basket was off the hook..ok..id better start working now..hehehe

Spoon or Mugen, doesnt matter who u go for...in the end they will both garner the same satisfaction and reliability. They are both very, very comparable and have tons of experience in tuning Hondas..
i have pretty much the mugen catalog..minus a few items..like mugen roll cage..mugen radiator..and fuel cell(on the way though)..one thing to remember was that mugen tested thier parts on a jspec motor..so results will differ unless you have the 11.1:1 pistons
had lunch w/ EP couple hours ago before he went off to work so it's gonna be awhile before he sees this and posts
huhu...
-k-b0t, who wisks away to destroytheplanet.com...for he hasn't been there in a few months..
You guys heard of Alex Woods too?? Well he's from Italy and his car is strictly Mugen. He puts well over 270 hp (flywheel of course) all motor. His car is made for auto-xing. His website by the way is : http://members.xoom.it/alex_woods/home_us.htm
