Default life of an igniter

i replaced mine about a year ago. i have done 6 or so track events so the engine has gotten rather warm. now the car won't start.
1) engine turns
2) pulled plugs and they show a spark
3) stuck my ear to the metal cover of the fuel lines under back seat and heard the pump turn on for two seconds.
4) no clue if the main relay has ever been changed (i haven't done it)
5) as i try and start it, it almost sounds like it wants to back fire every so often
6) had the same symtoms a year ago and towed it to dealer and they just changed the igniter

anything else i should check?

There are two things inside the distributor that go bad....ignitor(that battery looking thing) and that electrical piece that 4 wires clip onto..forgot the name...both went bad on mine. But it also could be the dist. cap, cause the crappy PepBoys ones I use, the conductors like to fry and fall off...look inside the cap first. Hydrolock could also be a possiblity.....sometime when you crank with no start, the injectors keep ticking and make a puddle in thge cylinders....do you have a real raw fuel smell?

i have had the plugs out and saw the top of the pistons. no water/oil/anything. yes i smell gas coming out of the spark plug holes when trying to start the car (with plugs out to see the pistons move)

i'll take a look inside the cap now

two things in the cap are ignitor and coil

Yeah if your ignitor is new, then it could be the coil.

i changed them both a year ago. i just am not sure how often these things go bad. i used genuine honda parts. but if they go bad just the same i will use cheaper parts.

Yeah each cost me around 70-85 from PepBoys....you could go bu y both, try each new part to see which one you need, and return the other. Just keep the receipts.
