Airbox/intake info
You guys seem to be a weath of knowledge.
I was wondering about airbox/intake design. I understand the ideas behind plenums, effective filtering area needed, and volumes of intakes for engine size/rpms.
What would be the perfect intake for the Type R? Airbox? Cone filter? J's racing sauge style pipe?
Let me here your thoughts.
Matt-bored at work, heading to NY in 30 minutes, and thinking about intakes......I need to get out more.....

Ill give my non-expert opinion. I dont think you can say one kind is best over all others. Different motors likes different things. I do think that the stock airbox is too restrictive though when it comes to a heavily modified motor as I have seen with my car. My stock box(with and without resonator and box lid on and off) doesnt perform nearly as well on my car as my AEM does. The stock box falls on its face on the top end. Ive never tried a short ram or Js style intake so I cant elaborate on that. Dunno if that helps you any but thats just my opinion.
Ryan, who is also bored, has to soon drop his tranny, change clutch, swap calipers, and cant wait for Hondafest this Saturday

Thanks for your input and good luck with your car.
I guess I am more interested in theory than enything else. I dea on everything from stock motors to full blow monster N/A setups (FI just requires a filter, nothing more).
Thanks!

I use to have a Cold air setup, but swaped to a short ram yesterday, and the top end seems to have a dropped a little (the inaccurate butt dyno) but it sounds ten times better, almost like a growl, and mid-low range definetly improved.
