symptoms : out of place ticking. sounds like an injector from inside the car but its not. from the outside of the car you can hear a slight rattling noise when the car takes off like normal. the higher the RPM the less you hear it. it is usually gone by 2,000 RPM.

this weekend i am going to remove the valve cover and check all the springs, stems and keepers. besides the obvious "holy **** thats broken!!!" is there anything i should look for? any small tell tale items that would give away possible a valve problem or something of that order.

correct me if i am wrong but we have dual springs correct?

i am thinking that i may have either a broken spring or a keeper came lose and therefor my car is making that sound.

i know mine doesnt have dual but im h23 though... u might wanna just check your valve lash (clearance). that can cause tapping..
u can get a compression guage kit and not use the guage... hook it up to an air hose that will put air in the cylinder then u can use a special tool to remove the springs and retainers and test them properly.. can also check the upper portion of the vavle stem... if u do that u might as well replace the valve seals.. good luck

 

Just FYI, Im not saying this is it.

But the SH has a problem w/the heatshield getting rattled by the ATTS system.. j00 sure it isn't that?

Also make sure all your spark plugs are tight (ask me why later .) does it sould like an exhaust leak, or a ticking??

no exhaust leake. got a thermal 15,000 miles ago. highly doubt it is that. yes it does sound like a ticking. that is what is leading me to the valves. i will check out the heat shield. i doubt its that.
