Default Titanium valve springs and retainers..louder??

just installed in my b18c and noise coming from around valve cover/cam gear area is little louder kind of a ticking sound. at first i thought just adjust the valves, but all good. is it normal them to be little louder than stock ones because of the harder/lighter material. runs just fine. just curious

Did you follow the procedures in accordance with a helm manual? Make sure the gapa are set correctly. If you didnt adjust them after the install they are mostlikely off because the spring may be a different height and the retainers may be a different thinckness.

Titanium valve springs? Who makes them or was it just a typo?

when he says "lash the valves", he means to do the valve lash procedure,

which is when you set the size of the cap where the top of the valvestem hits the rocker arm.

you use a feeler gauge, a 10mm wrench and screwdriver.

if you dont know what i'm talking about yet,
then thats DEFINETELY your problem and you DEFINETELY need to do that right now.

changes to the cam/valves can produce some wild changes in the valve lash.
I changed a cam and the gap was off by like half a frickin inch!!

follow your honda service manual and set the gap to something good and tight, (but within spec) your cam, or springs/retainers may have a recommended setting.

um yeah ditto. titanium is way to hard for valve springs. they dont have the elasticity that chrome sicone, or whatever traditional valvespings are made from. its just to brittle.

Titanium valve springs and retainers=TYPO
Dual valve springs and titanium retainers=correct
They all are KMS, please no flames i've been ebay shopping. Cams are crower 402a's but i've had them for a while, no probs. Valve lash was set at 0.006 intake and 0.008 exhaust exactly like they are suppose to be. This is not really a big deal the engine runs strong just a small noise, could even be timing belt cover touching something. i was just wonder if dual springs and tit. retainers were a little noisier...

Errr, not sure if this helps, but I lashed (aka adjusted the valve clearance), and I followed the directions to the T and even double-checked my clearances. It still made the ticking noise, but I could only hear it if I had the hood up.

yeah thats kinda what i thought too. anytime i do something like this i always hear a new noise that was probably already there to start with. just paranoid i guess, not gonna worry about it...

If the lash has been adjusted properly then you have nothing to worry about. I have crower 403 cams with their springs and retainers and the whole valve train is fairly loud. I checked th valve lash multiple times and even had a friend (acura mechanic) double check them for me and they are fine.
