B18A....Should I throw in p30 pistons or leave it alone for now
I've got a ODB0(1990) LS B18A1 that I'm working on. It is going ot be on an engine stand for this work.
Anyway, I'm swapping the head to a PnP one, with new cams, will put on new timing belt, cam gears.
Well, I have some P30 pistons which will up the compression to 11:1, I'm just debating if I should go through the trouble of installing them.
If I just do the top end, I can do it all pretty quick. If I do the pistons, thne I have to buy rings, probably get ARP rod bolts, thne strip down the block, have it honed and washed, etc.
Wondering if the power increase from the new pistons will be worth it?
Also, this will be my daily driver, so is this compression going to give me any problems? We have 93 octane in MI.
Or, should I run a 1 or 2 layer head gasket, and/or have the head milled 0.030?
Any comments/suggestion?
Thnx

If you're getting cams and a port and polished head, high compression pistons will definitely make a difference. I would stick with an OEM 3 layer head gasket because 11:1 is high enough for a daily driver.
I want more feedback on this, im building the same engine... The only thing im gonna be juicing 55-75, and i dont know if those high compression pistons will likey'.. heh..
