Repeating off: Free dyno testing of JDM and high end dampers
I would like to restate my offer for free dyno testing any JDM (Tein, Buddy Club, Tanabe, etc.) or other true performance street or racing dampers from kits or seperate units. They will be tested on a multi-speed Roehrig computerized shock dyno and you will receive a graph printout showing your regularly used and maximum and minimum adjustment settings. The normal price of this would be $30 per damper but I'll do it for free.
Why? Two fold. 1) So that you can see what your shocks are doing to evaluate their function and condition. 2) So that we can sample what other damper companies are doing for good or bad, if they have made any changes in graphs, what effects their adjustments have, etc. Just basic hard data collection to see what is out there so we can compare how our products match up. If people were interested, once we have gathered a fair amount of graphs I could make these available in .pdf form on the KONI web site for perusal.
If you are interested, please contact me first by email at lee@koni-na.com or phone 859-586-4100 ext 316. I would like to get at least one front and one rear but will happily check all four. I ask that you pay the freight to us and we will pay the return freight via UPS Ground. Turnaround will be within a few business days of receipt. I do need to know the model of damper and application and approximate age/wear, and cost. I am not really looking to test many, many sets of the same common units (although a few is fine) but would prefer as broad a cross section as possible. KONI simply does not have the budget to go out and buy many samples across broad spectrum of available parts for what is in reality a pretty small actual market. On the otherhand, we want to know what's out there and how we stack up.
I am not doing this as a sales ploy to make you buy our products (although I certainly won't stop you), but as data collection for comparison. If you would like assistance on interpreting or comparing the data I will gladly help or leave you and your data alone if you prefer.
If you are interested in taking part, please let me know.

I am, but again, I'd rather wait til the end of the season. If our September event gets cancelled, that may be a possibility.

The vertex team was planning on purchasing some zeal superfunctions... i'd like to see how they look.
- thanks again for the seminar and hat at hizzyfest!

As soon as we get some more SPSS units here to run on the computer dyno, I'll put them up on our site. When we build them in the shop normally, we just use a single speed (13.0 ips/0.33 mps) dyno to confirm forces and keep that on file. I should have that on your work order it you'd like it but the multi-speed graph gives a better overall comparison.

I'll check out about anything of a performance ilk generally, just not the old Monroes of your pickup truck. I'd generally say that I know what to expect from the Penskes but would be happy to check them out and see if I'm proved right or wrong.

I'll echo what a bunch of people have already said. I would love to send you my advance designs... as soon as the season is over.

fyi:
There are no 'front' / 'rear' dampers with certain 'JDM' brands. The damper is the same no matter the mounting location.
What kind of attachment points would need to be sent?

I have apex'i N1 on my car now. I can take them off if they're back to me in less than 2 weeks. Would you like to have the upper mounts and lower mounts still on? Get back to me and I'll wrench them off this weekend if I have time.

You are aware that the superfunctions cannot be serviced in the US right?

Gee, what part about the front suspension, functions, springing, etc. is the same as on the rear end thus allowing/requiring the dsame damper on all four corners? How about none. Isn't this saying something?
Send whatever attachments they require to get them to the normal shock mounts. We have Honda lower front mounts (the wishbones), etc. but not the threaded mounts that are specific to some of these kits. Give is whatever parts you would require to mount to to the control arms, etc. We don't need pillo ball mounts, springs, etc.
I will see that everything gets tested and turned around within a day or two. I will be out of town with the KONI service trailer at Solo II Nat'ls. and the Runoffs in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of September so try to get them to me before or after that time. During that time, they might just sit in my office awaiting my return. Be sure to include a return address and wrap them well so they don't get damaged banging into each other loose in a box or heaven fordid come out of the box during shipping.
