Strut bars, sway bars, tie bars: How do they help?
I have an Integra LS, which doesnt come with a front strut bar. Let's focus on the front strut bar for now. How will installing one affect handling? How is one front strut bar different than the other? Say I get a stock GSR front strutbar, how much different is it than the one found on the ITR? Basically, why are some strut bars priced as low as $20 while others can reach prices of $300? Of course, quality of materials come into mind, but lets say both were quality built, both from reputable tuners: how is one better than the other and how can it justify the price of the more expensive one? What should I be looking for?
Also, how do those other bars work (ie strut, sway, tie bars) and how do they affect handling?

Check these links for sway bar info: http://www.addco.net/what.shtml
http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com ==> got to tech topics, then anti-roll bars.
You should be looking for rigidity and light weight on the strut tower bars. Basically, they prevent chassis flex, and maintain the proper suspension geometry.
You pay $300 b/c they are good, but also Japanese products tend to be pricey. Mugen is a premier tuner, if you don't already know. The ITR is stiffer than the GSR. The $20 ones, well they look really shiny and make your engine bay look pretty!
Define reputable tuner. None that I know have $20 bars.

Reasonably priced. The front is brand new. I don't personally have experience with them though, but they are not in the business for looks.

forget the strut bar and focus on rear sway bar. I have a Suspension Techniques on my 95 LS and love it. It reduces understeer by keeping the rear flatter in curves. If you take a hard left-hand curve your driver side rear corner wants to raise up giving body roll. The rear swaybar connects the left and right rear suspension keeping that driver side rear corner from raising by transferring the pressure to the right side thus neutralizing or flattening the rear end and reducing body roll. Don't put a front sway bar on as this will result with understeer again because if you tighten up turn in the rear will want to raise even more.
Hi,
The Strut and tie bars complete the suspension. Consider the front, it's like an "H" with shocks and the axles. A strut bar connects the top parts of the H and the lower tie bar connects the bottom parts. I'm not an engineer, but you can just "see" how that would help. It stiffens the chassis and reduces flex. It makes the car more responsive in my experience.
The sway bar, esp the rear one, can have more of an affect on handling. Generally, a bigger sway bar in the back can make our nose heavy FWD cars rotate better and handle more neutral. You can even get some oversteer characteristics. A sway bar can have a significant impact on the handling overall. I'm not a big fan of oversteer, esp since I'm used to FWD, so I went with a Neuspeed 19 mm rear sway. Also, the Neuspeed has little chance of "tearout' which some of the other designs suffer from... I just recently added the rear sway to complete my suspension. I'm very pleased so far, but haven't autoxed on it yet...
Prices will range based on how strong the bars are, but prob more by the brand.
If you are interested in a stock GSR front strut bar for $20 + shipping I have one

Don't have him upgrade to a GSR strut bar. When I bought my GSR, I thought it handled pretty well. Then I bought a Type-R strut bar out of someones ITR that was totaled in a crash. The bar is so much stiffer and stronger than the "GSR tube", it's one of the best upgrades I got for my car. I have my GSR strut bar also, but I would not recommend anyone to buy it. Sure it is better over nothing, but get something better than a GSR strut bar.
By the way, don't get a $20 strut bar. You could probably go to K-Mart and buy a towel rack for $20 and throw it in your car. A $20 bar will flex and bend so much, it will not help much at all. Pricing for these bars are affected by weight, flex, type of material, quality of craftsmanship, supply and demand (popularity), country of origin, etc... And be careful about buying something off of eBay, because you'll never know if what you bought is an authentic or a copy till it is too late.
