Default anyone have pics of fuel sump with external fuel pump?

im doing a dx coupe right now that we welded a sump into the stock tank and need ideas on where to mount this monster areomotive fuel pump.

the pump should be at the same level as the sump correct?
the sump is so low that i dont think its safe. its lower than the rear subframe.

thanks guys.

just did the same thing sumped tank and aeromotive external pump and had a problem with the tank being to low ,i mounted the pump as close toi the tank as pos oble and mounted it through the spare tire compatrment with 4. 1/4 inch bolts (make sure you put some vibration ruber down cause it is loud with out it ) any way when i drive the car even on a full tank and stop short the pump starves (and them aeros will blow quik they dont like being hot) so i had to put a -10 tee inbetween the tank and filter and run another -10 line back up and to the factory fuel pump locationdrill a holl through the factory pump housing big enogh for a -10 bulk head straight fitting and drop some hose down into the tank where the factory in tank sump is so now the pump sucks from the bottom and creates a siphon to suck out of the top factory pump......p.s thats with me using a 12 fitting direct into the bottom of the tank so if you are using a sump from jegs or summit etc,(the square box type you will def be too low) if confusing let me know and ill get pics

theu pump works well being higher than the outlet ports of the sump with the t and the extra hose to the top of the tank, than running down in?

i was goin to mount this pump at the same level as the outlet ports on the sump, but holy jesus is that sump low.

post up pics if ya got them

thanks

what happens is the sump on the bottom of the tank gets fuel gravity fed when i initially start the car then it causes a siphon for the teed off line going into the top of the factory pump location works good for me and i would def recomomed it cause my tank sump is actually more levell then yours and it was giveing me probs

the sump is about 75 bucks i believe, the filter around 80 and the pump i believe is around 275 or more.

is it dangerous to have the pump exposed like that for a street car?

how exactly does the fuel get from the sump into the actual pump if the pump is slightly higher then sump?? i have a very similar setup and when i get below a half a tank the pump goes all weird like its not getting a steady fuel flow. i am gonna get a fuel cell and run it down to the pump so theres more gravity on the gas and so its flowing down. is there any other alternatives? like get a pump to suck it out of the tank and push it to the main pump?

you could get a surge tank wich is another tank to hold the gas (like a mini sunp) this is good cause you save money on a sumped tank and braided lines a nd fittings iot goes like this leave your factory tank alone with factory pump now in your engine bay after your factory fuel filter you have to put the surge tank wich is like a 1 gallon fuel cell it has 3 fittings welde on top and one on bottom (you could make this also) now from the filter wich is your feed line now to the top of the surge tank then out the bottom of the surge tank to the high perf fuelfilter and pump then to the fuel rail .now the return line goes back to the top of the surge tank and the 3rd fitting on top goes from the top of the surge tank to the factory return in the factory gas tank ,..........walla you got a sump that wont ever go dry and could run it to thwe e on your fuel gauge this set up can be adjusted for horse powewr levels by changing the factory in tank pump to a after market one you get the idea

the other line goint back into the sump is the fuel return line.(coming back from the rail)

is there an advantage to having it return to the sump rather than to the top of the tank?

Dturbo,

I would be careful with that fuel return. The Aeromotive pumps do not like to have the return coming in like that. If you have it to high up, where it jsut drops in or coming back right at the same level, the hot fuel coming back will actually arate the fuel. Causing the pump to go bad quicker. It will also casue turbulence in it as well. One other way to do it is put a bulkhead on the side of the tank.

I learned that one the hard way before. Yea the pump are usually mounted at the same height or lower as the sump. What you can always do to is bypass the sump and run an intank pump to the stock ouput area. From that point you can set up some steel braided line running that into the Aeromotive pump. That way you can hide it under the rear frame box rails or something like that. So now you will be feeding the vacuum pump (Aeromotive) with the fuel, so it will not rely on gravity to feed it. Then you will also realize that when you are low on fuel and come to a stop sign you do not hear the pump whine get real loud becasue all the fuel has come to the front of the tank.

how are you going to have the return going back into the bottom of the tank where gas is already coming out of.. should be on the top or side higher up so the gas actually makes it back into the tank without causing any turbulance..... i could be wrong.. i dont know
