Default B16a CAI or SRI?

Well, my car is lowered and the CAI filter is visible from outside the car. It sticks down a little lower than my bumper and quite frankly, I'm nervous about sucking up water. I'm moving to Boston next week and the roads there are terrible and potholes fill up with water...etc. Very dangerous.

Having said that, I'm also concerned about performance. My friend just bought a SRI for his '00 Altima (I know, ugly car but whatever) and he says he gained top end power but lost some low end. Now, that sounds like bullshit to me, but if it's true, then that's what I want as well. High end gains, I could care less about low end. CAI = mid range power??

Right now I'm rocking the '91 Si AEM CAI, and I also think the diameter of the tubing may not be ideal for the B16, so that is kinda weighing in on my decision as well. I think I'd like to get a SRI for the B16, so would the '99/'00 Si AEM SRI fit my car? What model AEM SRI would fit if that one doesn't? Any need to relocate the battery? I'd prefer to keep it where it is.

Hit me up with some ideas

Can you post a pic of your setup? My filter isn't visible from outside the car... not sure what you mean

As far as SRIs go, CAIs make more power overall. You can convert your CAI to an SRI, I'd think, just by removing the AEM endpiece - the part that goes into the resonator box hole - and sticking the filter on the pipe that's left over.

Well, if you are level to the ground, you can see the filter kinda sticking out the bottom of the bumper. I have plenty of pics of my car but not from the correct angle. It's not severe, it's just the tip of the filter, maybe 5-10% of it is visible.

That's not a bad idea of converting to a SRI, but I'm concerned about pipe width. My CAI is for the D16a6, not my B16a.

I'm leaning towards getting a B16 AEM SRI, but opinions are welcome. Anyone else with a similar set-up?

I'm using a CRX Si AEM piece right now so yes, I have a similar setup

As far as the filter extending below the bumper - you DO have the wheelwell cover piece on, right? Like AEM told you to do when you installed the filter? If the car is moving then that area becomes a low pressure zone, which makes it harder for the engine to get air. Having that cover there should negate the pressure effect, adding HP as well as protecting the filter.

When I installed mine I just nudged the filter up on the AEM piping until it wasn't resting on the wheelwell cover piece anymore.

i got a short ram on my ef and i still have the fender wall on but i cut a hole on the underside and removed that resonator box and it looks like a little mini ramp leading up to the filter head from under the car, kinda hard to explain but if youve done it then you know what i mean. it works really well, shoots the air right into the filter but without fear of water. and i got a three inch and it seems like it didnt help the bottom but it did help the top end alot, seems anyways

Okay, I just pushed the filter up and now it fits nicely inside the bumper. I still need to get the plastic liner so that it's covered up, but it's an improvement for now.

The thing is, the AEM CAI for the '91 Si which I have installed on my B16 has 2.5" piping. Is that big enough for the B16? Doesn't the '99/'00 Si AEM CAI have 3" piping? Which Short Ram Intake would work best for a B16 in an ED/EF? I just moved to Boston and we had some flash flooding this weekend which has got me worried about hydrolock.
