Can you damage Cams in timming belt snap?
I am looking at cams from someone that is selling aftermarket cams. Apparently the timming belt snapped with the cams on. Would the cams be damaged? He did say that "messed up a lot of things in the head". I would think if the valves hung out and the piston knocked them back up against the cam then it would theoretically **** things up!
Can anyone comment as to how safe a purchase this would be?
Thanks.

I would think the rockers would go before the cam, but I still wouldn't touch those cams with a 10 foot pole. When Mr. Piston meets Mr. Valve, don't assume anything.
possibly, but he must've been driving pretty hard.
The valves would've had to break the valvesprings/retainers and push the rocker arms up into the cam. It could happen as one big explosion, but I highly doubt it.
