Default crower or skunk2 cams

i always hear different things depending on who you ask, but from any personal experience, which is better. i talked to someone who knows a guy that owns a shop out in LA thats worked with both, and he said crower was better. so whats the deal?

i have seen better numbers from Crower Stage 2 or 3 than Skunk2 every time we've seen a dyno chart.

Skunk2 Stage 2 is too large a cam for stock or near stock compression. If you must get Skunk2 and aren't doing a whole lot of engine work I'd do Stage1.

How about 11:1 compression and then Skunk stage2 or crower stage2

do a search for cams, it will answer all questions.

i was considering buying cams and researched the different brands. IMO if your just looking to just buy cams (i.e. no other engine work right now) then crower is the way to go. they are alot less expensive and i think they use better grinds for a daily driver. (which is what i'm building)

however if you are going for a custom setup, i.e. pistons, p&p, etc. then you should contact webcams. they will do a custom grind for your application. you can't beat a cam designed for your engine.

search the archived content and you'll learn alot.

This is what I have, the Type-S 11:1 pistons with the crower stage 2's with their springs and retainers.

Over stock pistons and valve train, I made about 19hp more, 176 was my stock piston/valve train dyno, and 195 with the new.

Have heard that too, but if you search, you'll find that those were the first ones they made, and/or there was an installation error.

I would recommend you look into the JUN camshafts for the h22, excellent quality. And don't forget to beef up your valvetrain.

well ive decided to get crower stage2 cams/springs/retainers. i wanted to get skunk(probably for the name and cause theyre more expensive... thats gotta be for a reason). but the guy swears by the crowers, showed me a dyno making 204whp. same exact setup as what ill have, except they had a type-s intake manifold. although ill be getting a skunk man. when they come out.

well right now its pretty basic. ill have the crower valvetrain, skunk2 gears, cp intake, dc header(gonna tackweld the eo# plate onto a sms header... cops wont know the diff), catco converter and an apex ws exhaust. ill be getting an intake man. when it comes out, and the same shop thats doing the engine will be doing a port&polish(thatll be in a couple months though). i also have a vafc for tuning after my clutch has its break-in time.

not sure yet, but im thinking about doing a 2.5" headerback and then welding on the apex muffler to the end. i just dont want the loud sound. i know someone that did a straight pipe on his itr and its too loud for my taste... i dont want power that badly.

any other recommendations on what to do?

An AEM underdrive pulley set would be nice, it is a cheap upgrade that will net you some power to the wheels.

My engine builder told me that getting the gears may not net you anything additional to the cams, because they were designed to use the stock gears, set at 0,0. I'd be curious to know if they helped at all though. Maybe someone else here already knows and can add some input to that.

they break 2. Get type S LMA and then i dont think your going to have an issues with cracking the cams in 3 places. good luck.

what causes them to break? is it just the constant hard driving put on them by racing or or they just freak accidents? is there something i can do to prevent it from happening? kinda messed up that the companies would charge hundreds for a product that breaks so easily.

and not to disagree with anyone, cause i still dont know whats better. but in this post as well as a guy from the shop im going to says crower is the way to go. i talked to my friend today and he told me to cancel the order and stay with the skunks. he knows someone who works alot with h22's and now supposedly works for hondata... he says the skunks are the best for the it. im so damn confused... its just that im dropping a grand and i just want the best i can get.

btw, thanks for all the help.
