EG + B18C1...what do i need?
I own a 92 DX, and FINALLY blew the pos motor. I've been searching around and found a complete B18C1 changeover for $3200. It comes with axles, shift linkage, etc...everything off the GSR. What axles and other things would i need? Because a buddy of mine said none of what comes with the swap will work...HELP ME! Or i will be forced to just buy a GSR and i dont really wanna buy a new car because i want a bike also...darn decisions.
hmmm.... your buddy is kind of weird... if you get the complete GSR swap, everything will work and FIT the EG6 or Civic 92-95.... the only thing you really need to know if the engine is a OBD1 or OBD2.... the one you want is a OBD1 so u can just do a plug and play....u should need to change anything out but when you get your motor....change out the waterpump/oil/timingbelt/trannyfluid/etc.....
The only thing you MAY have to do is some VTEC wiring. I'm doing the same swap right now into the same car, but my car was not prewired for VTEC. Some of them are, even if they're DX's and the like. Fits like a glove too.
You will have to wire v-tec...the evap **** i believe....secondary butterfly...and knock sensor i believe also. I cant remember correctly but check out hybridgarage.com They have a great write up on it. If i were you i would re-wire the distributer for obd-1...you will need both plugs from an obd1 dizzy, get obd1 injectors, obd1 wiring harness and obd1 p72 to pretty much change it over to an obd1 motor. It's much easier than the obd2 route in my opinion...and ive also heard of CEL problems with modding obd2 motors. Im not completley sober right now either so i would research some of this. Good luck on the swap homey.
See man i shouldnt even be areound a computer right now. I thought you said obd2 motor..where did that come from? Oh well IF it's obd2 i would try to convert to obd1...if it's obd1 then by god ur all set!!!.....oh yea dont forget mounts...if you use stockers use the GSR rear bracket with stock civic mount....GSR drivers side mount.....Gsr tranny bracket with civic mount....and the one on the front of the trannt is civic bracket AND mount i believe. If you are using AC I would check with someone to see...im not using AC so dont need that crap.
The car is a 92 DX, which ALL 92 models are pre-wired for VTEC on the cabin harness side. So with the use of the GSR engine harness (OBDI or OBDII) it will be plug n' play other than the IAB and knock sensor which is expected with this swap. No matter what year GSR swap - OBDI/OBDII the motor will drop into the car and bolt right up as if it came from the factory that way. If it is OBDII, by using the OBDII GSR engine harness, you can simply use an OBDI ECU and you are set.
The swap requires using the 94-01 Integra mounts although the stock passenger side upper tranny mount can be reused. You also need 94-01 Integra or 99-00 Civic Si axles and shift linkage. Other than that there should be little if any issues.
