Default ANYONE who knows about EF frames / body work

I purchased this EF a few months ago with the intent of driving it....my mech told me the body was finished and that the suspension mounts might brake off under a sudden shock such as a bump at high speed.

I took a look at it and it doesnt seem to be that bad off....the metal is still pretty solid. I asked a buddy of mine who's got a welder to take a look at it and he figgures we can fix it.

Just today some guy came by my place to pick up a car I was scrapping...took a look at my civic and told my dad that the frame was in really bad shape and that the suspension might brake off under sudden shock. Sadly I wasnt there to get more info.

Here are some pics I snapped of the mounts...agreed they are rusted...but they arent that bad...I beat on em with a wrench and a screwdriver and the metal is solid. Am I missing something?

Can anyone tell me what structural part is fuckt? I've just ordered 2 new rear 1/4s for it....and they are comming in in a few weeks...dont wanna be stuck with a bad frame and useless 1/4s

Thanks

Pierre

seriously that car is as rusty as titanic, its a goner all the rust is not suppose to be there, it may be hard but the sturctial integrity is not like it should be. Those pics aren't the best so i cant tell u exactly what is wrong but i wouldn't drive something with that much rust. quarter panals won't do **** for that. Yes the frame is fucked... the more u drive it the more u risk ur life and someone elses. Time for a new car.. part that out and get another. Or keep that one as a parts car but for god sakes man, don't drive it!

well you're a gangsta for driving it! but id be scare to drive that EF. you dont wanna drive and then everything starts to fall apart..its always best to think of safety. even if you were to weld a 1/4 panel on, it wouldnt be as strong as it would be.

stop putting money into it now! I've had my share of rusties... don't mess with frame/structural rust.... it only gets worse and dangerous. Safe yourself headaches down the road and part it out.

I wouldnt lsiten to any of them that tell you the car is fucked.. Any car can be fixed no matter how bad. All it will take is the labor adn the thought to figure out exactly what you need to weld. I would personnally cut out the metal sexction at a time and then re-make it with new metal adn weld it bcak up.. You may need new floor pans as well. But botom line is consider hte cost , is it cheaper to fix yours or get a nother car??

YOU DECIDE

A body shop supplier neer my place.

OK guys....dont wanna be impolite here...but I dont need opinions...I need to know why its so bad? The rockers I can rebuild with sheet metal....the 1/4s I can replace...so what cant be fixed / is gonna structually weeken the car?

The suspension mount is still pretty solid....what strutural part is missing / gonna cause problems

Yeah, I agree that it looks really bad. Sell your quarter panels in the for sale forum or save them for another EF. Sorry

Reason Im scrapping the body of my 85 Si

Get a new shell.. you can find them for cheap.... my rockers and floors got horrid this past winter and I didnt get to stop the rust before it got bad... and the rockers were toast... everyone thinks it could be fixed... but its more benificial to get another shell....

More or less those are major stress points of the car... rusting out and cutting off the bad stuff then welding in new wont be as strong as the factory mount.

Floor is still solid...what you are seeing is the worst rust on all of the car. Hole in a rear 1/4...which I can fix....hole in a frame rail...which can be replaced.

Labor isnt an issue cause I`m not paying anyone to weld...its my buddy...so its basically the metal that will cost. I`ve never done something like this before...so I wanna make sure I do it right. Any links on info to rebuild?

No easy in canada

I`m fixing this thing as ghetto as possible...but as well as possible also..its my winter car...and I also wanna take it on a trip to maine in 4 weeks.

I paid 600$ can for it

Invested maybe 200$ in it up to now....I can maybe cancel the order on the 1/4s...but I need to decide quick. All in all....for 1500$ total..including the price of the car...I think I can have it driving.

No offense but it is dumb to try to restore that car...when you can get a new one for so cheap. Real dumb. Strip the good **** and scrap the carcass.

New ones with **** bodies still sell for ~1500$ bucks.

The rest of the body is pretty much immacluate. hence how I got duped into purchasing it...it looked really clean ...I saw the rockers...but figgured...bah a bit of welding.

Even with 1500 cdn you can get a ef in much better shape. You just going to cause yourself headaches in the long run, invest in a better starting point. Think about it this way yes its just a winter car, but would you be more susceptible to a accident in winter months or summer months. The car will not be safe, and you are putting yourself in danger.

Nothing to part dude...that's the problem

My buddy told me he could fix it a few months back...so I've been purchasing the odd parts to fix it up here and there....I've basicall got the following (none of which have a real resale value):

Clutch
Tranny
Engine
Rear suspension
Dash
Cluster
axles
battery
brakes
400$ in 1/4 pannels on order

So I'm really in a bind if I get rid of it...I still wanna know whats soo bad about all the rusted stuff is sheet metal which can be rewelded no problem...I dont get this

"your suspension will fall out" thing I've been gettting....yes the metal is rotted out on the outside of the mount...but its not even connected to the rotted out sheet metal anyways....the only part that's scaring me is that roundish beam looking structure thats not attached to the pinch weld in the back. I assume its a frame brace.
