Wire Up V-Tec With/Out A V-Tec ECU
i need to know how to hard wire vtec w/o the vtec ECU?? ive been told you can just wire it up to a switch? how do you go about that?
yes you can. the vtec solenoid is activated by a certain amount of volts. You can wire the votls through a switch and flip it when you want vtec.

I believe Autometer also makes and RPM acitvated switch... Wire this to the VTEC solenoid, put in the desired RPM pill and VTEC then engages with no VTEC ecu... Although with this method, you don't get the timing and fuel curve that goes with the VTEC ecu...

for one its not my car , i would of course buy the new ECU, but my friend is cheap and cant afford that, bc he got jipped on the amount he paid to have to vtec head installed (he payed 1738.37 for a B16a1 head put on a stock integra LS B18 block) so hes goin to be payin that off for a while but he still wants to be able to use the vtec bc hes inpaitent and cant just wait to but the computer, but how would you go about givein voltage to the vetc solenoid? what i was thinkin was to run a line from a power source, and then to a switch, then to the solenoid, but how much voltage should you send to the solenoid. and would that work?
I have what ails your friend. Before you look at this very crappy wiring diagram which is by no means accurate, make sure you understand what terminals on what ever items your hooking up. (READ THE INSTRUCTIONS) I did not include all the wires for each component because I am to lazy to draw them in. But this will help sparks fly in your brain as to how to "Hack" your B16A
. (Hack is a term usually followed by broken parts)
A little aout this diagram:
the msd 8950 is exactly that: RPM Activated Switch MSD Part Number 8950
The relay is a basic 20 amp car relay (radio shack ~$15, i think it is 20 amps, but anything over 3 amps(required by VTEC solenoid) is sufficent)
The dizzy: there should be an extra rubber "block" that you can safely run the coil negative lead through for a clean, leak free install. (Water in distributor = BBAAADDDD)
Disclaimer:
Please dont come back and blame me for one of the following reasons:
hole in piston
hole in cylinder wall
blown head gasket
cracked head, block or both
melted or damaged valves
well maybe not some of these but come on, gotta be dramatic. And maybe some other reasons. me shut up now.

Impatience seems to be the cause of most of the blown engines I read about
Just wait until you can get a proper ECU, what is the point of adding more air when you cannot properly compensate with additional fuel and timing changes.. You are asking for trouble
