Rebuilding my H22a Tranny: Advice for component selection?
I recently just got my JDM H22A1 from HMO. Its not the type S or Euro or nothing, just your run of the mill H22. I have a Quaife LSD in transit here right now.
So while putting in the Quaife I want to have the tranny rebuilt... I am going to have it done by a guy a know at the Honda dealer.
This is for a high output, often raced car. Are the gears different between the Type S, SH, Euro? I am interested in having the gears changed out if there are any differences. I want to just do this tranny once and hopefully it will hold up to the abuse of my slicks. I heard rumours of this trans having weak gears? I dunno... I want to at least replace the synchros and swap in the LSD... and if anyone tells me that there are better gears/ratios available than I am game.
Let me know what you think.. thanks!

That would be the ATR and Euro R tranny. I don't know if you will be able to find them, but here are comparisons:

thanks for the information!
now lets say I was interested in swapping out just my final drive for a 4.266. do I need anything else?
I dont even know which tranny I have... the bar code sticker thing was pealing off and i tossed it without thinking of looking up what tranny i had first. is there another way to tell?
i am wondering if it would even be worth a gear change. maybe it would be worthwhile to stick with what i already have, FD and all, so i can keep my top speed for the very rare occasions in which im playing around on the highway with my friends that have cars of greater velocity.
lastly: how difficult is it to rebuild these trannies? I build engines all the time, but have never once pulled the case off a transaxle. with factory manuals is it anything to sweat?
thanks

most of the trannies already have the 4.266 FD. How do you know you DON'T already have it?
