extending the warranty?
Would it be a good idea or a waste of money. My dad wants me to do it, but I am would rather use the money to help pay for the loan on the car. I am going back to school (WMU) in a couple of weeks and it would help me out (the money) when I cant make a payment. Thanks.
I got 36,000 miles on it right now. My new, extended warranty, would end in 3 years(2004), but its honda and they last forever. That is another reason why I dont want to do it, plus I really haven't heard of alot of people having troubles with there itr's.
I personaaly would extend b/c I know what would happen is the day I go past the warranty is the day I'm paying for something to be fixed. Plus your in school, you dont want that hassle while your away. Just my two pennies
i think i will, when the warrenty goes out i will be out of college(after 8 million years of school). its a good peace of mind. it may be a waste of money or not, who knows. these cars are extremely reliable, but you never know what can happen. thanks
I bought it. $1200 for 100K/10yrs. - if you don't use it, you can cash it in for full price. You won't likely have any problems until later on, if at all. I had it on my GSR also, and it came in handy a few times, and paid for itself, but this was when the car already had 70K on it. The GSR now has 118K and is still going strong...

I was told that if I didn't make any warranty claims that I would get ALL of it back, minus some fee, I'm sure.

George...If you don't exceed the maufacturer's 4yr/50K mile warranty, you should be able to cancel the extended warranty without any cost to you..after that you should be able to get it prorated for what you have "used"...I used to work in retail and that is they law when it comes to warranties...
It does vary by state, so check your local laws and you should be able to get some $$$ back. hope this helps

stupid question but, If you get a type r used and want to get an extended warranty on it. Do you just go to your local dealer and make a deal or is there a set price?
I Bought it and from experience will tell You It SUCKS, not worth the extra money
It covers barely anything, The original covers everything except wear items (brake pads etc.) The extended only covers certain things with the engine, and a few mechanical parts.
Under the extended warranty I went to the dealership (mind you I just passed the 50K mark by about 200 miles) I had some condensation in the headlamps and they wouldnt cover it under the extended warranty, but under the original it would have been covered.
IMO its not really worth it.

Is it really worth it? It really comes down to IF you have a problem, not when. Every person will have a different experience, and every car will be different, so it may or may not have issues. That IF is the key though...you can't really know what will happen.
My clutch failed big time on my GSR - cracked pressure plate, and they would not cover it. They did not consider it a defect, I argued, but they still said no, so each situation may be different also.
The nice thing about the warranty is that towing to the nearest dealership is covered, NO MATTER where you are. Rental car is covered if it is a covered item. If you are more than 100 mi from home, up to 3 nights at a hotel are also covered while your car is being worked on. It's a little more than a warranty, but it may not be worth it to everyone.

It really all depends on the warranty. I had one thru Ryan Warranty and it was excellent, it covered even warn out CV joint boots. But I was reasearching when I got the R and I came across Warranty Direct, they are at http://www.warrantydirect.com, anyhow I thought well these guys I never heard of so I called my local Dealership and asked the Warranty claims person if they had any problems with this company and they said no they pay on time etc etc. I asked if they held things up, I.E. Ryan always wanted to see everything, but I paid about 1,200 for the Ryan warranty and over the course of a couple years it paid out over 2,000 bucks. Plus a rental car while mine was in the shop. Not too bad. Also I liked that Warranty direct tells you what is NOT covered as opposed to what is covered. It's all a gamble but just remember if you don't buy it, put that money away and then if the car should brake then you have it... if not then it's a little "nest egg" for later. Just my two little cents.
Thanks for the help. I did get the warranty yesterday. Its covered for 3 more years, who knows what can happen. I know its a bad idea after I just got the warranty but I really want a header and exhaust for my car now. I am thinking spoon or mugen. I just sold my truck so I have some money to play with.
I think people are confusing Acura's extended warranty with aftermarket ones. The coverage on Acura's extended warranty is identical to the standard 4/50k original factory warranty to the best of my knowledge. Dealers do not typically offer your money back on these ones if you do not use it.
Aftermarket warranties vary a lot and some have exclusion clauses that run to pages - they are certainly not bumper to bumper and have nothing to do with American Honda. Some do offer money back if you do not use them. Some slimy dealers will sell these and not inform buyers that they are not actually getting full factory coverage.
I would personally prefer the factory variant is I were to buy an extended warranty.
I got a quote for $900 for a 7/75k AcuraCare warranty from http://www.4acura.com. I am not sure if I will get it or not when my current warrenty gets close to expiring. It is basically a gamble - you have to decide if you are expecting to spend $900 on repairs between 50k and 75k miles. If you intend to sell before the original warranty expires it is definitely a waste of money. Even though it is a nice selling point, you will see only pennies on the dollar on your original cost on this one.
