Default Nail in the Tire :(

Went out to my car and to my bad luck the tire was almost flat ... pshh.... . Anyway, I looked around the tire to make sure it was a nail... sure enough it was (pheww, no flat spots). Anyway... any downsides to patching the tire if it still has plenty of tread? I dont want to hurt performance. I dont want to have to drive the car delicately for the patch. Thoughts??

Thanks,
Jon

where is the nail? i had one on an almost 100% tread tire, and it was in the sidewall rendering it unpatchable. i shelled out the money to get another re010. hth.

The nail is in the tread of the tire.. like in the middle of the tire. Is that okay to patch. If so, still wondering the downsides to patching, if any?

Just for reference, how much is RE010?

i think you do lose tire life but nothing too dramatic? it costs about 160 to replace the re010.

Same thing happened to me. Just for same messure, I got it professionally patched by the firestone dealer. It seems to be holding up fine. You may consider moving it to the rear just in case...

i've had a plug/patch in one of my V700's for about a season... it's kinda funny, the tires are so soft... the plug doesn't wear as much..

Or, you could just live with the nail. It's character.

Tire looses it's Z rating. And goes down to an H rating when patched. Thats it. If properly patched you should be just fine.

I also got a nail in my tire not too long after I got my car. It was in the tread of the rear right tire. They patched it for free at the dealership and all is fine now.

Just get it professionally patched, no plugs! When I worked at a Tire shop I fixed jsut about as many plugs as holes I actually repaired.
