I try to frequent these events, but usually end up under one of the cars for one reason or another. Does anyone else here run at those events? If so, what car(s) do you run there?

Damn bro! That car is a rocket! You had the 2nd fastest FTD at the Waterbury auto-x just a few weeks back. That was the first time I saw you run and I'm loving that car. I'm currently in a white '89 Accord Hatch. It has yet to show up this season due to a lack of funds to finish my engine, but rest assured, I'll finish up in time for at least 1 or 2 good runs this season.

What's under the hood?

PS... I see ur in Watertown. That were you're originally from? I use to live there too.

I started autocrossing because of the FCSCC rookie school...waaaay back in 1997. When I lived in CT a few years back, I attended all of the FCSCC and CART autocrosses. Both were fun and challenging courses. I also ran time trials with CART.

Now that I'm in NJ, I try to give the CT guys a visit when I can. But that count is still zero for me. Say hi to everyone. See my web site for the cars I run, as well as the other team members, who periodically compete at CT venues. Funny enough, the team picture on my web site was taken at FCSCC. Actually, half of the pictures of our NJ-based club was taken in CT!

My car is nothing to brag about, it has a b16 from a 99 si that is pretty much stock, and a type r tranny. Other than that it's just little suspension tweaks here and there. It's not that hard to do well at the fcscc and the CART events. It all depends on the competition that shows up. Any time I go to a regional scca event I get my **** handed to me. But I'm in it mostly for the fun of it because Street Mod is a class where I don't have the funds to be competitive in anything but a local level. I am originally from waterbury but have been in watertown for the past 8 years or so. Anyway, stop and say hello next time you see me at an event. And good luck with the project.

I was at Waterbury last weekend with my ITA Toyota MR2. I used to run up there a lot before I built my car for club racing.

I was there in my green 00 Passat, #602. Yeah, the kid who destroyed the course on the last two runs. Sorry course workers...

I've talked to tunes12 a couple times, and I'm awed by the hatch every time.

thanks stealthx32. I'm awed everytime I think about your supercharcged crv. Thats' cool. Hopefully as my driving gets better I'll be able to start taking home FTD's from the fcscc guys.

I don't think Kurt (Mr2 Go-cart) or the other guy (forgot his name, the gold RX) or the white, old school 911 will like that very much.

...but I sure as hell will.

I raced at FCSCC twice the last 2 years but I wasn' t too happy because they only allowed us to do 4 runs. We were done by 1:30pm and then they had fun runs for a whole hour and a half!! They made a lot more money that way.
We could have easily done 6 runs and be finished at a very reasonable time.

It doesn't make sense for me anymore to travel 1hr (~65 mi.) for just 4 runs.. The lot is also the smallest and worst one I 've ever raced at, as far as cracks and bumps go, unless they 've re-paved it since last year. Good people there though and I like that little hill. You can see everything from there.

Your absolutely right. They haven't been running to bad this year. We've been running until about 3:30-4:00 then fun runs. Usually only get about 5 runs though. The only reason I go there is because of the people, and the fact that its 5.5 miles from my house.

If you care...

I head up to the CT/MA area about once a year. During memorial day weekend a couple guys and I went to Deven (sp?), MA. Cars?... Yellow Type R, Black GSX, and mine, Black CRX.

The course was almost a mile long... most excellent! I know you guys are talking about CT, but Deven, MA is less then a 2 hour drive from Hartford area, and most definitely worth the trip.

I hope to get to an FCSCA or CART event by the end of the year, but the prospect tis not looking good so far.

You think that the FCSCA lot is bad, take a ride out to the CART lot. True, it's about 20 sec. bigger, but it's very torn up, and very sandy. Makes for a bad recipe for disaster. I caught a screw in my tire when I ran my 300 there last year. That same day, I also caught a nasty loose spot in the pavement which aided in the other mishap I had that very same day (I blew a strut in a big way.). I'm with Tunes on this one, the FCSCA may be a shorter lot, but the caliber of driver you see there is far better then that of CART. Just IMO.

I've only been to one other event outside of FCSCC, which was a NNJR-PCA event, and I find that I learn more about my car/driving on the short, technical course, than the long, higher speed ones. The absolute chaos of the course setup also helps me look ahead more...well, because I have to.

See that's what I'm talking about. My doing well all depends on who shows up. If you show up, I'm all done, but then again, so is everyone else that's there. My car is so far from any limitations in SM that when paired up against any decent SM cars, I get owned. Give me time though, (lots of time), I'll play with the big boys eventually. The devens events in ayer MA are awesome. Of all of the events I've been to (NY, NJ ,CT, and MA) the devens events were by far the best. It's more about driver skill than memorization, and the level of driver skill there is higher than at any other event I've been to. Very well run.

Since we're talking about the general area up there, ... have any of you guys been to Rome, NY? I heard that place had awesome grip, and sadly, I also heard they don't run there any longer.

Any word on whether they'll get that lot back?

Not much of a chance. I heard they lost the Rome lot for good.

Tunes12: Have you been to NNJR at Englishtown? There are always a couple of National Champs there, divisional ones, several distinguished national Tour drivers, PROs, as well as Evolution School instructors. Tons of SM cars (lots of Civic HBs) too. I 've never been to a MASS event but out of the 9 clubs I 've raced at in the tri-state area, the NNJR SCCA events seem to have the most experienced drivers. Mass. is the home of a couple of National Champs and other National caliber drivers too so I 'm sure the events you 're talking about are extremely competitive.

VTEConly- Yes, I have made the trip down to englishtown once. It was probably one of the smoothest run events I've ever been to, something like 7 runs with 120+ drivers, and there were quite a few SM cars. In both places there seems to be quite a number of very experienced drivers. Although both event are kick ****, the devens event is a better drive for me. I95 kills me down to jersey kills me.

That's the one. Kurt D., he's got that red go cart with the wide Hoosiers on it. This year, he put some parts back in, like a whole door instead of just the shell. He's also got an OEM spoiler on it now due to the need for a brake light on the track he runs on also.

Kurt's a good guy. I spoke with him at one of the first events, and apparently he bought it as a used enduro racer with 100k miles or so on it (I might be totally making that number up, but it's really high ). So he converted it into his autocrosser. Crazy car to say the least.

Last I heard the car was well over the 200k mile mark. Still seems to go pretty good though!

yeah, it's actually well over 200 like tunes said. If I remember correctly, he said it was in the neighborhood of 270'ish. I'm pretty sure that he did use to use that as an enduro, but I think he stripped it and made it what it is. He owns a garage&towing, so he's damn good with a wrench, and has access to all the goodies. Last time I talked to him, he was getting rid of some of his Mr2's. So now I think he said he's down to like 5 or something rediculous.

tunes.... last time I was there and talking to him, he and I were watching you run, and all he said was wow, and damn would I like to do a fun-run with that car. I remember looking back at your car while you were going back to park, and seeing that huge *** sway bar under the back.
