Default OT: R.I.P. to a friend...

I would like to send out my condolences to the Ventura family for their great loss.

RIP to J.Ventura who was killed last wednsday night on his Honda CBR 600 F3. He was involved in a high speed accident racing two other sport bikes on the Deegan expwy in NYC. As much as we all preach or dont preach about street racing. Nothing hits home, like one of your own going down in the neverending quest for speed. May his soul rest in peace.

J.Ventura 1977-2001

Why does everyone put the blame on the bike? It is the rider or even the situation that was involved...If anything, the bike is probably the least affecting factor in the whole situation (in most cases). accidents happen, but please don't blame the bike, it gives other motorcycle riders a bad name.

I'm sorry for the loss of a friend H-Pimp...I hope everything is well for you and my condolences to the family of your friend...

NewspeedR. No, his name was Joe and he was from NYC. Do you know someone named Javier that was involved in an accident? I hope the answer is no.

I dont blame the bike, but I know the way I drive my carand I know I would do the same on a bike. Therefore a bike would be out of the question. Those people who control their speeds on a bike, hey more power to ya'. But those who can't wont live live to tell you to slow down.

typer98, I dont think NYR is blaming the bike or "bikes" in general. Knowing Mario personally I think he means that he's scared of what he'll do on the bike once he gets comfortable on it. Thats all. Back in 1997 I had a brand new ZX7 (Metzlers, Yoshi pipe, jet kit) and I rode it less than ten times and sold it. Why you ask?

After riding with a group of much more experienced riders (trying to keep up with veteran sport bike riders at 120+) I realized that I was not cut out for speed on 2 wheels and sold it. It was my personal choice simply because I dont trust MYSELF on the bike. Not that I didn't trust the actual bike. Cars have always been my #1 passion so selling the bike wasn't hard. Considering I got my first Type R shortly after selling the ZX7.

Its all about riding within your limits, the throtle works both ways. I am truely sorry to hear about this, it is a shame for both him and his family and for motorcyclist everywhere, I can attest to the addiction you feel when on a bike, I used to do the Highspeed runs on the first few bikes I owned, One day something jsut clicks and you realize that street riding is VERY dangerous especially at elevated speeds, Fortuneatley I made it to where I am now, Itis is even more risky now that I ride one the the fastest street bikes ever produced, you can get in trouble in the blink of an eye if you don't have the proper mind set. Stick to the track if you can. One question....do you know what kind of safety gear he was wearing? Once again I am very sorry to hear this, hopefully this will deter future accidents from happening

another reason why I never got a bike and you should never get a bike.
I was just going by this quote of what he said...if he can't/won't ride a bike w/out scaring himself, that's fine...but telling you not to is "indirectly" blaming the bike...

I am not trying to start a flame war, but 99% of the people blame it on bikes, I hear it all the time...I don't get myself into the situation of pushing my bike too hard, I know I'm not that experienced so I know what I'm willing to try.

It's nice to hear that you guys are concerned for safety of yourself and others, as am I...but there are too many people that can't ride...

I think that's enough of the OT subject...

have a safe day

Yeah, I hear what you're saying typeR98. It's all about precaution and mature riding habits. Cars too can be fatal if one does not have the right mindset. The only difference on the bike is that you get up to triple digit speeds faster than you can reason sometimes (from personal experience) and that can be a problem.

ITR 571, it was a hot summer night. he had a full face helmet, jeans and a long sleeve T shirt. Not much in the way of prtective gear. But according to my friends that witnessed the accident, no safety gear in the world would have done any good. You see he hit an aluminum light post at 130+ with his torso. RIP Bro

Cars also have a lot more metal surrounding the driver to protect him in case of an accident - plus safety devices like seat belts and air bags.

Yes, cars too can be fatal. Especially at stupid-fast speeds. But accidents will sometimes be survivable in a car when they are fatal on a bike.

My condolensces to you and to his family.....Tragedies such as the one above are a point of realization when they hit this close to home. The need for speed can be both tragic and rewarding..it's ironic. I now how dangerous the Deeegan can be for bikes. I had a friend who hit a car head on as he was racing on I-87 as a car in front of him stopped short. He was run over by a cab and burned and scarred by his own bike. He survived and lived to tell about it about 1 1/2 year ago, but regrets the day he mounted that bike. RIP to all the souls who have tragically fallen in the quest for speed. Drive safely and most of all now your limit!

First off rip to your friend. but what the man said here is true your friend may have known what he was doing but just something small and slight could of caused the accident and not him, a peice of tire left on the freeway, roadkill, some rocks, pothole, tire could of grabbed one of those crater lines that are in expanded freeways and pulled his tire in the direction he didnt want to go... many many things...

I read about death on bikes contantly, i was not raised to ride so I dont ride like I was raised to you dig...

I will still be purchasing my f4i...

condolences to your friend amigo.

Sorry to hear about your friend

I will never own a bike for the simple reason that I wouldn't be able to control myself. I'd get out of hand and something would happen to me.
