Default Any difference between d16a6 turbo and dohc zc turbo??

This is for my '90 civic si...What would be better to do...stick with the d16a6 and turbo it for daily driving...or swap in a dohc ZC and turbo it....will there be any difference between the two and will the same turbo fit both??(this is all stock internals) Thanx!

The DOHC ZC head is less restrictive airflow wise than the A6 head is. So if you start with the ZC, you'll start with a better motor overall for boost. Both the ZC and A6 will benefit from a P&P job, but I think the ZC will always come out on top.

However, aftermarket support is an issue here. For example, just throw in a nice turbo cam in the A6, then you'll be eating turbo ZC's alive. But if you can find a nice set of cams for the ZC, then it might be a different story. Either way, they are both great motors - I've heard of built A6's (turbo'd) that put out 250-300 HP to the wheels.

So the difference isn't very big, the ZC (i think) has slightly bigger valves, and has two cams (so you can adjust overlapping). The bottom end of the ZC and A6 are very similar.

Personally, I'd think the A6 would be a little easier to work with...

I would boost the DOHC ZC- it's got a good C/R for boost, it flows better, you'll start off w/ over 20 more hp, it's more adjustable (being DOHC), and most d series parts will swap over to the ZC. If you want cams then I'd suggest IM'ng exospeed - he knows alot, and he seems like he is all about customer service- I'm getting some regrinds from him in a few weeks- or, if your a balla you could get some HKS cams for like $800. I dunno- ZC all the way mang.

Your best bet is to get a greddy kit for the 92-95 civic.

Are you buying an aftermarket turbo?
Cause if you're, why not build the block first???

Now either way I'll stick with the A6, you'll see almost the same type of gains and the main difference will be the tuning possibilities with the DOHC...
The A6 is a really good motor and the money you gotta spend on buying a ZC is almost half the price of a nice set of pistons and rod...

For example:
A good set of pistons/rods/rings/bolts will run you some 1000$.
I paid 895$ for my ZC motor due to the shipping (295$)...
So if I had a A6 from the begining with the extra money I could built the botton end with some top-of-the-line parts...

Think about it...

ok, well i'm going off MSRP....aprox 2499.99 is going rate for a greddy kit, since they have a high market share i'll use them as an example
lets say your in california, 8% sales tax so thats around what 200 in sales tax...so your already up to 2700, next 300 is going to be a brezze to blow, so why list it.

you can say yea 1500, ebay..blah blah blah used blah blah my friend blah blah blah i'll put it in blah blah blah...either way market dictates go w/ the most expensive expample and work your way down

every website I have seen for the greddy kit for the $1500, even greddy site itself has it for $1995. you can always get hks cams for the zc in billet form not regrinds for $300 each from takakaira.com.

I agree with slywfbpsi the kit will run clase to $1500 w/o an intercooler...so I'll just pick one up on Ebay or junkyard...AND I live in OREGON where there are no emissions tests where I live and NO SALES TAX (cingham)!!

i'm all about just welding my self a manifold, i'm not worried about that. Making my own works better then spending what the MSRP is
