Default Vortech super chargers for 99-00 Si?

Does anyone have one on this board on their EM1 ? Im just wondering what kind of power gains you guys got and what you ran on the 1/4. Im seriously looking into getting one. Is it possible to get me into the mid to high 13's with it ? There are 2 kinds of superchargers for the Si. Theres one that adds a claimed 117 to the wheels and 64lbs and also a toned down version. I was aiming at getting the more powerful one.

Thanks,
Arbi

Look for Jason, he was a wembaster for ClubSi.com.
He also posts on HT, runs 12s with his Vortech setup.

From what I hear they aren't worth it. There have been a few topics on this before...

I used to actually want a Vortech back in the days for my 99 Si, but I've found that a turbo is the better way to go. Look into getting yourself a good turbo kit. your gonna have to get yourself a good fuel setup and management as well.

There are a lotta good kits out there that will easily get you into the 13's if you don't wanna piece kit together yourself. You just gotta get yourself a decent tuner and you should be good to go. Regardless if you go SC or Turbo, your gonna have to get your car tuned if you want optimal results.

He has a LOT more done then just the standard vortech kit. Built engine, EMS, and a lot of boost.

IMO Vortech is the bastard of FI systems on small displacement engines. It has the disadvantages of both a Roots blower, and a Turbo. Without any advantages over a turbo

I never said he runs 12's on a stock kit and stock motor.
But Vortech got him where he is.

you could'n t give me one of those dam things if you want to supercharge your car get a jackson if you want you car to be fast get a turbo. who the hell wants 3psi at 4000 rpm then 4 psi at 5000 rpm then 5.5 psi at 6000 rpm then 7psi at 7000 rpm then 8 psi at 8000 rpm. then you go to shift and you start all over again. The only time a friend of mine beats me with his vortech car is on the interstate from stoplight to stoplight I kill him every time. there is no choice here. oh and there was an article on that SC in one of the car mags and it said if you want to play with the V8 boys you will have to downshift twice to get into the sweet spot when I punch the gas at 3000 RPM I have 9 psi right then and there and the tires start spinning

yup in my opinion it is much better. much better power delivery. if you want more than 250WHP then get a turbo you will be much happier

hahaha how is it that with the 2nd vortech supercharger ( there are 2 kinds, ones the cheaper down toned one and theres a more expensive one that gives way more power ), a guy on this board put down 241 to the wheels at 7psi ? and may I add with only an Apexi N1 ? On their website they even claim 117 whp increase over stock with 64lbs more.

that exactly my point they CLAIM that power. I am not going to argue anymore but go ahead and get it and come to knoxville and I will suck the paint off your car

This has got to be the most covered topic ever on honda-tech.

Heres the low down vortech claims they make xxxx amount of power, but they don't tell you where its at. When they make peak power guess what it's time to shift. Don't u remember when it came out they claimed like 275 whp and then they run a 14.0 in 1/4 buhahahha what a joke. 275 in a turbo honda is good for low 12's on slicks. Not to mention the Vortech kit is way overpriced.
JRSC is not as powerful but has a better power curve.

A long time ago i went into jotech and wanted this kit they said hold on and came back and showed me a dyno and i thank them for saving me alot of $. I ended up going turbo and never regreted it.

Exactly. Ive installed many blowers and I am still happiest with my JRSC. (as far as blowers go) The power band is straight as an arrow and it is very reliable. For a bracket car I love it. Now, if I were to build a straight up, street/strip heads up car there is no question it would be turboed. These are only my opinions and they mean nothing to anybody but me. It boils down to do what you like. I like fast. So thats why I have one SC car, one bad *** all motor car, and one turbo car (truck) So I can enjoy all kinds of fast. =D

Way to go ricer. Vortech = moderately good top end, NO low end. JRSC = Good low end boost, top end dropoff. Turbo: medicore low end, very strong mid range and top end power. The peak power you make with a vortech means jack **** when you have no area under the curve. Here's a drawing to illustrate my point, they're a rough representation of the power curves with all power adders. Purple is vortech, continuously climbing, green is JRSC strong low/mid because of instant boost, but lacking on the top end, and red is turbo, ok low end but comes on strong once it spools.

That is why vortech's suck on low torque/high RPM motors.

ok so explain this to me, is it ******* possible to run 13's with I/H/E and no other internals built with a JRSC on falken azenis without blowing the ******* motor? Thats my biggest concern. Oh and the problem I also see is that if I were to purchase the JRSC for my em1, there is no "aftercooler" like there is with the vortech package, so basically I am going to need an intercooler right?

Get yourself a Revhard kit, get it tuned and you'll be in the 13's no problem.
Hell, even a Greddy kit will get you into the 13's properly tuned.

I used to feel the way you do about Vortech and I wanted one pretty badly. I then did a lotta studying up on turbo's and they are soooooooo much more efficient and just as safe as a vortech setup. If your main concern is not blowing up your motor, just stay away from Deltagate Wastegates .

Safety and power is all in the tuning regardless wether you have a vortech or Turbo.

But yes, you can get into 13's with a vortech kit with I/H/E with good tuning @ 10psi.

Thanks for the info taku , but my heart is still set on getting a supercharger, most probably the jackson racing becuase its very afforable, so far ive seen the whole kit brand new run for like 2500. Thats an awesome price, but taku, i was wondering what I can do with the jackson racing kit, I know im going to need a fuel management system and boost controller. I was leaning towards the supercharger becuase of the stealth, you cant tell from outside at all, unless your gunnin it and people can hear the whining ? The whole turbo thing with the intercooler is a lil too much for me , thats why i was leaning towards the jackson racing supercharger.

Well, if your set on getting the Jackson then I'll help ya out. Fuel system wise, the only thing you'll need is a FPR and maybe grab yourself some 440cc injectors and a Hondata. You won't need a fuel pump too badly because our pumps can handle up to ~350 hp. Hondata recently put out Jackson racing maps that are already optimized for our 99 Si's so you should already be good to go on that.

You won't need a boost controller because superchargers are psi dependant on pulley's. If you want more psi, your going to have to run a different pulley, this goes for the vortech as well.

You should be just fine, but I would also take your car to a tuner if possible to double check your a/f ratio's across your rpm band. You wanna make sure that your car isn't running lean when you start boosting.

I've heard a lot of good things about the jrsc maps from hondata, but you should double check everything because every is different.
