Fucked Up The Type R (Check Engine Light) >>>>>
I was taking a friend for a ride in the car and shifting around 8100 and when i hit 3rd and mashed the gas I could feel something in the back like a clunking noise and a jarring sensation and then the "Check Engine" light came on.
I have a V-AFC and a intake. I tried reseting the V-AFC and restarting the car but no luck. Its a 2000 Type R. Take it to Acura and see what they can do?? Will they bitch about my mods?

since u have a VAFC that voids ur warranty. ur gonna have to troubleshoot with outside help unless u uninstall VAFC and make it look stock again
don't know whats wrong but you have no warrenty anymore cause the V-AFC taps into the ECU.
atleast this is whati've read and been told
beat me to it

I wasn't concerned about that as much as what the possible problem could be. Acura has to prove to me that the VAFC specifically caused the said problem, if they cant prove it to me then they will be fixing it for free.
How will i know if the valves are bent??

I dont think the V-AFC is gonna void your warranty. Most dealers have no idea what it does..just tell them its a digital gauge for air/fuel and redline...tell them its just for looks...they dont care.
Take it to the dealer and have them pull the code...that will tell them what is causing the check engine light to come on...the dealer will go from there as to what it will take to fix it....i dont see you having any problem. My dealer has warranty cars with more stuff then that on it.
BTW, how long have you had the V-AFC on the car? Did you just put it on and the check engine light came on...or has it been installed for a while?

Hi,
The V-AFC has been on there for quite a while, months in fact, all the settings have always been 100% stock as its really just for looks (previous owner had it installed.)
I just put back on the factory airbox so now all there is is just the V-AFC which has been set back to stock so that should be good.
If my dealer gives me any **** I'll just call Acura and bitch but hopefully it should go smoothly.
The Check engine light came on as i shifted into third. I shifted into 2nd and 3rd about 8100 RPMs and once I hit third and gave it some gas I heard something towards the exhaust and the check engine light came on.
I'll keep you guys posted tomorrow

As SonicDark said, it is unlawful to void the car's warranty unless otherwise the dealer could somehow prove that the aftermarket equipment caused the problem. I really doubt its the V-FAC though that caused the CEL to come on.

Yeah just call ahead and tell them you want to bring it in to check out why the check engine light is on...dont mention any mods to them. Go in...let them write it up....go into the lounge and wait for them to tell you what the deal is..
I'd put my money on either a bad 02 sensor or a misfire in one of the cylinders....common stuff...

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the information
When I bought the Type R I thought that it could handle occassional redlines and hard shifting and I'm sure it can so I hope that I didnt personally **** it up but then thats pretty hard, I never even fucked up my Mustang GT so we'll see.
Thank you again for the information, I'll give them a call in the morning and tell them whats up and bring it in, I wont mention anything and have them take care of it.

Pull the codes yourself.. short the service connector with a paperclip and turn on the car to the accessory position/on (dont start it) and count the flashes... each long one is the tens spot and each slow one is the ones position...
71 will read = 7 long flashes and 1 quick one
etc....
after the short flashes.. it wil pause a second and either repeat the same code or another code sequence.. write them all down..
post the codes and I think someone will have a book and tell you what the codes are...

If you spliced the V-AFC into the stock ECU harness - they will know you modified the car - and possibly changed the running parameters of the motor (to non-stock ones) which would be hard for you to disprove. The intake is less of a problem. Some dealers (depending on their past experience with abusive drivers) may void your warranty for any aftermarket modifications; others will void the warranty pertaining to parts of the car that are affected by the modifications e.g. aftermarket intake causes hydrolock and kills motor - no warranty on motor.
Getting aggressive with the dealership will get you nowhere.
As I've said before, have your Mom bring in the car and play dumb. It might work.
Are you sure you didn't mis-shift the car??

Yah I have driven stick for years and I know what I'm doing and I hit third and then i heard a noise from the back and the car kinda lurched with the check engine light coming on.
I'll bring it in tomorrow, if they say anything then i'll go to another dealership
