Default Burning LOTS of oil...

So long story short...my 94 H22a1 burns an ***-load of oil.

I have used Mobil 1 Synthenic 10 and 5 w 30 w/ Mobil 1 Filter.

And then my last oil change did engine flush + switched to AMSOIL 5 w 30 Synthetic. Now 1400+ Miles later I have added 2 quarts and am still 1 quart down (basically a quart burned every 500 miles)!!

So I check under my car and find no evidence of an oil leak of any kind...

My mechanically-inclined friend thinks its the Valve seals that the oil is going through? Does this sound like the problem?

If so, anybody ever done this job themselves or whould I most likely have to go to HONDA for this?

THANKS!!!

I had bad valve seals. I changed my oil, drove to tennesee (about 400 mi) and when i got there, i had about 1/4 quart of oil in my car :-\. I just replaced my head.

Good luck man. Use a helms manual.

whats teh mileage on the car, my 94 vtec is starting to eat some oil, but interesting thing i had a friend with a gsr that used up oil but it was his exhaust side valve seals, so he wasn't burning it but it would just get expelled with the exhaust. you sould do a compression test too and make sure the rings are ok

My motor's got 149,xxx miles on it... both my accords ran pretty strong over 200,000 - dont know if the higher performace H22's start to go earlier or what but I hope not....I hope its nothing too seriaus - power still seems good....I will have to Dyno it once I get this fixed + see how it compares to the dyno the previous owner did.

Oh, and the compression test sounds like a good idea too.

BTW - how many miles does yours have and how much oil does it use?

thanks for the info...

i have 130k on my baby, hmm how much oil i use, that kinda hard , i would have to say a quart or more every 2000 miles, i think, its kinda hard to say until now i never really kept track, and i was trying to keep track on this oil change and then the front balancer shaft seal went on my car and pored all 4 quearts of mobil 1 out, so im trying to keep track (agian)

I got my H23 head for $150. It's not on yet, so i can't tell you the differences. But as soon as it's done (tommorow hopefully). You're probably gonna pay around $600 for an h22 head.

$600?? DAMN....hopefully I can just do the Seals or whatever it needs for less but who knows....

I'm thinking I should probably have the problem diagnosed by Honda and then decide from there whether to let Honda fix it for $1.2 million or if I can attempt to do the work with a friend of mine.

PS: any links to H22 Heads for sale - I was doing google searches w/no luck..

thanks
