Default Burnouts

sorry if this question seems too stupid but how do i do a burnout or smoke my tires in place? I see people spinning their tires like crazy but their car isn't in motion at all. How they do that? I usually end up launching.

Pull the E-brake. Only locks up the rear. Rev gas, drop clutch.

N1racer,funny name seeing how I can't picture an N1 racer doing an ebrake burnout.Anyhow,I don't think the wear and tear on the brake's would be my concern.I would worry about the tires. You must be one of those kids that gets everyone ran off on saturday nights for doing burnouts in the parking lot.

What makes anything you just said even remotely correct?

The person is asking a simple question, no need to get on him for that.

Getting street tires to smoke takes a lot of heat and high revs since the R doesn't make a lot of torque. You might bounce off your rev-limiter in the process - which under the relatively little engine load a burnout scenario creates may damage your motor and/or transmission. Why do you want to abuse your car like this??

Someone has seen the Fast and the Furious one too many times me thinks......

is it so wrong to wonder? I just wanted to know guys, don't have to go and start making comments about me. I have no intentions of doing this anymore anyways. my question came about when I was watching the brickyard 400 today. the winner whatever his name was, couldn't burnout, didn't know how.

Rev it up and drop the clutch. The tires on the R are too sticky though. I have pepboy tires on my mustang. I don't have to hold the brake or anything, it will just light em up.

So, it then seems that the only way to do "doughnuts" in a FWD (front wheel drive) car would be to do burnouts in reverse with the wheel turned! Just trying to help, ... let us know how it "turns out".

[Cynical] Just douse yer front tires in gasoline and light 'em up! [/Cynical]

If you really wanna do burnouts, go to a drag strip where you're actually doing them for a reason, to heat up the fronts. If you have the money to burn up tires for no reason, please send your checks to....

If you are doing a burnout on stock tires at the strip, then you have a lot to learn about drag racing and tire technology ......

Hehe, on the few occasions i have drag raced, i never bothered to do a "warmup"...it just didn't seem likely that a little more heat would help the car hook up, that sticky stuff they put down was more than enough. (this was my GS-R, haven't dragged the R yet)...i'm glad to know that i was right. Well, everyone else does it tho...so at least he won't look out of place.

First of all, most drag cars have a brake that locks the front tires (RWD) so that the SLICKS on the car can be brought up to operating temperature, and so that the tires will grab well to the VHT-treated ("sticky stuff") strip. FWD cars will typically use the E brake to hold the car still while burning out their clutch/tires.

As D said - for street tires no burnout is necessary - as your traction will not noticeably increase with any burnout - you just end up decreasing the life of your tires. Lowering the front tire pressure is all that is necessary. Burnouts on street tires are just for show-offs or people that need a boost to their self-esteem. Of course, this all goes down the tubes if there is a chick with a nice rack watching you.

Ignorant people get flamed on this board. Get used to it. I've been flamed numerous times myself - do I let it bother me? no. Do I go running to my Mommy? no. Just because other people are doing it, doesn't mean it's right/correct.

When I drag race on the street tires....

I just lower the tire pressure as Big Phat mentioned.... But I "burnout" well I call it more of a "spinout" to remove all the rocks and other debris I picked up from parking in the pits.....uh...literally the PITS....grass, gravel....you name it.....it's in there....

I juss rev it up to 3500rpm or so....dump the clutch..and jump towards the prestage line....
