im in the boat of "who the hell cares" in regards to how clean the engine bay is.
until i fixed my leak from my non-power stearing mod, i had fluid spray around everywhere on the lower firewall.

Yes, but I don't see much of a connection between my mood and the state of your engine bay. Thanks for asking, though.
Do you really want to get in there with a toothbrush? Why?

Professional race teams are absolutely meticulous when it come to keeping their cars clean. It isn't about making you faster or slower - it is about attention to detail and pride in what you are doing.

Another good point is that right now I am looking to buy an ITR and the engine bay is one of the things I look at. If an owner keeps his engine bay clean then he really must have respect for his car. I would spend an extra $1000 on a car over another car if just the engine bay is cleaner. People that take pride in their car do keep the engine bay cleaner. Just my 2 cents.

...and it's much easier to spot leaks when it's clean.

w3rd! My engine bay is disgusting, and because I spend little time under there, outside of typical maintenance a stock Si requires, I could care less.

And because you don't want your tools/hands to slip from being covered in crap from a dirty area.
I see nothing wrong with keeping things clean (within reason), I just wondered if he was kidding about the toothbrush.

If you don't let your engine bay get that dirty in the first place you won't need a tooth brush to clean it. I love to see a clean engine bay. ATTENTION TO DETAIL!!! It takes literally 30 min from Spray, Soak rinse and dry for me to clean my enginebay. I am going to try using a different degreaser next time GUNK Citrus for that lemon fresh scent
No seriously, I want to try a technique to keep it clean. there is a product called engine dressing that is basically a clear coat to spray on your hoses etc etc. Supposed to keep them from dry rotting and cracking.
