I searched. Can't find anything related to my problem and with the parts I have.
Right after the Quaife and ACT street clutch install on my '99 GSR, I noticed a whinning sound, almost like a chain turning when accelerating and deccelerating. It is more apparent in lower gears, probably because I can't hear it much with the road noise in higher gears or at higher speeds. So this noise is not Very Loud, but it's very noticeable, especially in the lower-mid range and it wasn't there before. It's almost like a chain on a bicycle that goes faster & faster (and whinny) as the speed & RPMs increase.
When I depress the clutch pedal, the noise goes away.
When I take my foot off the accelerator, in lower speeds, the noise gets a little louder and then eventually goes away around 2K RPM as the revs drop.
It gets louder & louder when accelerating from 3-6K RPM but then I can't tell what happens because the secondary runners open up and everything is loud but I can still tell the 'tranny' is noisier than before throughout the whole range. Anyone have any ideas? Was something put back improperly or if is anything loose? The tech that installed it did no torqueing at all. He said he always goes by feel.. I watched him the whole 5-6hrs it took him to do everythnig. The only problem he ran into was the axle on the driver's side which he had to bang in for 25-30min. in order to get it into the tranny (I didn't like that). Like something was not lined up right.. (a spline or something).
This is the original tranny with 36k mi. and before the LSD & clutch install it was perfectly fine and quiet. Even the original clutch was like new and didn't to be replaced. This car is auto-xed a lot which is why I need to correct this if it is a problem. I don't want to make things worse by continueing to race the car.
BTW, should I be using Honda MTF with the Quaife in the tranny? I 'm using Redline MTL.

Take it back to the mechanic and tell him. Obviously it sound like something is wrong, I wouldnt race it until you fix it. I personally use Honda MTF w/ mine cuz I researched before and found that Redline doesnt do to good w/ honda trannies.
