Default Which nitrous kit?

i was looking at nitrous kits for my 97 prelude. I was looking at 4 kits that were available for my car.
Zex
Nitrous Express
NOS
Venom
I saw the venom kit on sale for 1069 dollars and that computer module looks pretty neat and the fact that you can program from your pc is a bonus. I was wondering what you guys recommend and if any of you guys had experiences with any of these kits. I dont mind paying the extra 500 for the Venom kit if its better and will be better on my motor. Also what stuff should i get for my car to run nitrous safer( IE Colder Plugs...etc) ?
thanks for your help

I have the zex kit and it runs fine. Really easy to install and use. I've also heard some bad stuff about the venom kit.

VENOM KIT IS A PAIN TO TUNE. I HAD THE ZEX AT ONE TIME, AND I JUST INSTALLED ONE ON MY FRIENDS CAR AND HE LOVES IT ITS TOOK 30 MINS TO INSTALL WITH THE BOTH OF US. PLUS ITS A SAFER KIT NO TUNING. UNLESS UR A N20 PRO THEN GO WITH THE ZEX KIT

Dude, why all the caps?

I have the zex and like it. I haven't tried the Venom, but for Double the price?!!
If you are going to spend $1100, plus the other misc stuff you'll need, you might as well add another grand a get a Supercharger/Turbo. just my opinion though. -C

Personally am looking into the NOS Plate kit...and for the price of the Venom kit, I can get the main kit, all the accesories I'll need, some guages, timing controller and a Elec Nitrous controller...

now thats a deal...plus its good up to a 200 shot...

if I ever have money to build my engine that is

I have heard a few bad things about Venom so definately research them first. NOS has always been good but every ricer has it and thinks NOS is nitrous not just a brand. Confuse them get Nitrous Express or Zex. It will always be safer to upgrade your ignition and maybe fuel. At least make sure your car has been well maintained and getting proper fuel and air supply. One of my domestic friends was telling me about a Jacobs Controller that hleps keep N20 safe. I haven had a chance to look it up but it would be worth checking out.

If I was you I would go with the company that has pioneered nitrous use N.O.S. they have been around the longest and in my eyes they make the best kits around, call me old school but I love N.O.S. I would get either a dry manifold kit or a plate injection system.

I've been reading a lot about nitrous I haven't experienced it first hand but I'd say go with the Nitrous Express kit.. Zex is good and all but if you want the most out of the nitrous go with the nitrous express... zex gives 60whp as opposed to the NX which gives 75whp..and not to mention with dry kits I believe you need to retard your timing.. with the nitrous express you'll be good to go..

I'm thinking of ordering mine next week.. will be a lil under a grand for the whole setup..NX Kit, bottle header, remote bottle opener, colder plugs, blowoff cap, blow down tube, pressure gauge, and fuel pressure safety cutoff switch.. I'm also thinking I will need to get a new FPR and new fuel rail..

uh, you can't say X brand of Nitrous gives you X amount of power. nitrous is Nitrous. The difference is in the delivery and the saftey. a 60 shot of NOS and a 60 shot of AVT homemade Nitrous is going to give you the same power increase given the same car with the same fuel and the same size jets (which makes the shot the same). A plate system gives better nitrous distribution, and the other do-dads are for protection and precision sprays. But, unless you've tested both systems of the same exact type (dry/wet) on the same exact car on the same exact day, you can't really compare the performance. -C

N.O.S. was helping cars break into the single digits when those other companies were cuddling the cabbage patch or merely a twinkle in someone's eyes. that carries a lot of weight with me. don't expect them to be the cheapest because they're not. be careful with NOS if you have an addictive personality (just a little more...just a little more...just a little more...oops)

If you want a 75 shot max, then get the zex kit for its ease of use and installation. However, if you want to go higher, then get a NOS direct port kit. Higher than 75 shot causes distribution problems in the chambers, so direct port injects the nitrous into each intake runner equally. a little more expensive, but worth it if you want a high shot. dont get the venom, ive heard of a lot of problems with them. I have the zex kit and love it.

What's the smallest amount shot you can adjust the nitrous too? If I use a small amount of nitrous will it hurt my car. My car has 135,000 miles on it so I don't want to much.

that's interesting.. I do however recall a company that sells Zex, NOS, NX and Venom telling me they installed each kit on the same exact car same shot and NX came out on top.. if you ever noticed Zex says 75hp to the flywheel as opposed to NX which says 75hp to the wheels.. not saying Zex sucks or nothing.. I'm just saying you ain't getting as much as you could... and dry kits are a lot more risky than wet kits... I'm still sticking with the NX kit..

I just dont like the fact that the NX kit is shooting fuel in through the intake. that scares me, even though they say it atomizes. i would go direct port if you want a big shot.

the shot size doesnt affect how much it costs to fill a bottle....the size of the bottle does. nitrous kits come with a 10 lb bottle, however you can get bigger or smaller. Here in cali nitrous costs about $4 a pound, so its around 40$ to fill a 10 lb bottle. The higher shot you use, the faster the nitrous runs out.

Yeah, that's what I mean. You have to compare the same shot, or amount of nitrous dispersed per unit time. If they rate their 'shot' differently, then you can't compare it. A 75 shot to the wheel is a BIG shot (like 85+ to the fly). And comparing a wet to a dry isn't conclusive either. Wet setup is safer hands down, but for a small shot, it isn't gonna matter.

BTW, it only costs me $33 to fill a 10 lb bottle here. HTH, -C

1)So how many 75 shots to a 10lb bottle? Say your spraying for a 1/4 mile each time.
2)Also, how long can you spray (time wise)?
3)If Im autocrossing, and want to rip out of a corner, can I just arm it and go in second or third gear?

I've heard you'll get about 10 shots out of a 10lb bottle.. you usually shoot for a max of around 10-13 seconds.. and if yer autocrossin you wouldn't want to use nitrous..

I have the exact amount of time on the instructions in my car. it was on the order of 2:30 for 55 shot. I can't recall exactly. The 75 shot was something short like 1:30. I'll post the exact times later.

I found it:
75 shot: 2 min
65 shot: 2.5 min
55 shot: 3 min

That's not too bad. I only use it for about 2 seconds per use so it should last a long time (maybe 3-4 weeks). That's about 17 Cents per second if you calculate it at a 55 shot. -C

Ive used the juice on about 10 full 1/4 mile runs so far...half on 55 shot, half on 75. i still have a bunch left. I have heard of people getting about 12-14 runs on 100 shot, so im figuring i have 5 or so runs left. im tempted to go use some up right now
