Anyone heard of putting oil on a header??????

Default Anyone heard of putting oil on a header??????

Hey woundering if anyone has ever heard of putting motor oil on a spoon header to give it that golden brown look after you turn the engine on??

A friend of mine, who's a CART mechanic, told me they put transmission oil on the race car headers so they turn purple...wtf...

it automatically turns gold after you turn it on. Just make sure you clean it first to prevent ugly spots on it.

thanks for the advice guys so maybe clean the header with an all purpose cleaner to get rid of the oil from the fingerprints etc and it will turn gold

I heard of using Autosol ( a metal polish) but not oil...who told you that bit of wonderful misinfo?

It'll turn gold on it's own with the heat if it's a true stainless...any stainless header does this...

somone who obvisouly doesnt know what there talking about thats why I thought I would get a second opinion because i have never heard of such a thing...usually when im working on my cars and i spill oil on the header i get pissed cause it burns up and creates spots on the header and if its ceramic coated thats even worse then the coating starting burning off

Oil will cause the header to be black and fugly. DO NOT DO IT.

It only works if you apply the oil in large amounts to the header while the car is running. Step 1: Drive the car around for 30minutes without dropping below 6k, peg it agains the rev limiter as many times as possible. Step 2: Quickly jump out of your car and dump oil all over the header. Step 3: Enjoy the new bling.

ok obviously post got out of hand hahhah very funny yeah I wanna ruin my spoon header just goes to show you who really is out there people who like to help other and other that are just plain dicks!

well if it burns through it will ruin the coating then your header will end of looking like a stock rusted up header
