Need some serious help on a b18a tranny ASAP. Experience preferred
Wussup yall. Can anyone tell me what are the symptoms of a bad countershaft bearing in honda tranny?? I have some serious problems. And someone that supposedly knows lots about trannys told me it wuz a countershaft bearing goin dead. But this dude never told me WHY. But my problems are...whenever i take off from 1st gear and engage the clutch to switch into 2nd...my shifter moves as if its gonna shift to 2nd by itself...but it doesn't. This happens wit 2nd also....same thing happens...only when i engage the clutch to shift to 3rd..the shifter moves up as if to shift to 3rd by itself and doesn't. And lately..it got worse....i put it into 2nd and the car doesn't go anywhere...jus revs. Sometimes it grinds, but mostly don't. And sometimes the gears pop into neutral while im driving!!!! I have a fairly good knowledge of trannys cuz i just rebuilt mine wit all new gears, new flywheel, clutch. Changed the tranny oil to HOnda mtf. I've only driven it about 1000miles since the rebuild...so synchros or wutever the common grind prob shouldn't be a problem..unless i DID damage them in this 1000mile. This happend recently after i took it to the track and ran it hard fo 2 hrs...around 10-15runs. Can anyone help??? Sorry for the long post...but had to explain..thanx..
Bad Mainshaft or Countershaft bearings would cause a low, deep sounding "groan" noise at low mph ( 20-45) Most times it can be hard to replicate and certain criteria needs to be met..
When you rebuilt your tranny, did you use OEM parts?
The reason that you are grinding gears is cause the synchro hub is not mating with the synchro gear comfortably..
The reason your popping outta gear is because the Synchro hub is not mating with the gear assembly properly.. i.e. worn..
If you have put in new synchro's, you should have installed new "shift forks" as well.. They could be bent..
looks like you may need another rebuild..
If your car uses a "shift rod" ( a long rod going from the shifter to the tranny)
you may want to take a look at that and make sure it is not bent in any way..

wussup...yes i used oem parts. I bought 1st, reverse, 2n,3rd gear sets. I couldn't just buy the synchros..cuz they only sell them with the gears. Along those came with synchro hubs. So all of those are new. My shift fork is a possibility. since i'll need another rebuild and doing that...i rather just find another tranny first...so that comes down to..i need time. Do you think its really hazardous to drive on this?? or i ccould do it carefully??? thanx
If your gonna buy a new/different tranny I wouldn't worry about the outcome..
I had an 87 Civic w/ a bent shifter rod and it would grind like an SOB when downshifting into second.. Well it did it for over 6 years without creating any problems..
I would have loved to see the amount of debris it left on the magnetic drain plug, but I never did before I sent it to the scrap yard...

I was wondering cuz...i live about 3 hrs from home where i can actually work on my car. so wondering if the gears would go to **** by the time i get a tranny. Im worried cuz i spent 1g on these gears...and if i can keep them...i will.....peace
