Default To anyone with a Y8 IM on there EF...

Okay, now I started my freshly rebuilt motor last night... Here are the specs.. Z6 head, Y8 block, ZC pistons, Z6 crank.. Anyway, checked compression and had about 210-220 all the way across the board...
Throwing 3 codes, 5, 10, 14..
I think 10 and 14 is just because of the clips are backwards, so its no big deal. But 5 is map and I have a vacum leak.
What I was wondering if anyone could just post a pic of there setup, or tell me which hose goes where. There is a thicker hose inlet that is on top, and a thicker one ont he bottom, one should go to pcv and one should be vacum. Now I dont htink it matters which one Because PCV goes to vacum, so.. But what I am wondering is what do I do to the other, run it somewhere or just plug it up?

Anyway if anyone has any pics please post.

Also I am using an LS throttle body.

one to pcv
one to dashpot on LS TB
one to brake booster
one to purge control solenoid
one to fpr
and one to MAP and charcoal canister from TB

i think thats it. i can post a pic of my setup in the morning when i get out of work. no codes and idles good....except for stumble from cam.

If I believe correctly, there is a small vacuum nipple on the backside of hte manifold above the alternator (in the general area) sticking out towards the firewall...

Try that.

Well considering the Y8 is a lot like the Z6 I might be able to help a little bit first off there wont be any vaccum lines for the Map sensor since the map sensor is on the TB itself. If your looking straight at the motor there will be a little vacuum nipple to the back right corner of the IM that goes to the sensor on the firewall (the one next to the map sensor on the stock motor. There will be another one on the back bigger though and that one goes to the brake booster. The bigger one on the front goes to the pcv and the smaller one on the front goes to the fuel pressure regulator. there will also be one on the TB that one goes to the charcoal canister, that is about all I can remember right now without looking at mine I will try to get pics very soon for you if you have any other questions.

When I get ff work later on tonight I will post a pic of how I got mine, I do have that little small vacum line on the back plugged up alrady from the map sensor, and since I am using the LS throttle body the map is still on the firewall.

Ahhh I missed that about the throttle body. For the map sensor there should be a vacuum nipple coming off of the TB itself for it. The one small one on the back goes to the other sensor on the firewall that I cant for the life of me remember the damn name of??!!

For those of you running Y8 mani's, which throttle body are you using? Can a B16A1 TB be used? What is the easiest swap (regarding MAP, IACV, etc...)? Thanks!

one little known item involving Y8 intake manifold. 99-00 mainfolds used what honda called "air assist" injectors...this was a vacuum passage that went directly to the injector area from outside controlled thermovalve. when coolant was below certain temp air was ported to injectors to aid in fuel atomization. what does this mean?
if using a 99-00 Y8 intake and NOT using the 99-00 Y8 head there will be a continuous vaccum leak at the intake flange. with the manifold off, look above the main ports on the flange fronm the cylinder head side... if you see small holes just above the main port than this is a 99-00 manifold. i had this problem and cured it by plugging the holes with the ever famous JB Weld. make sure it plugs the hole but doesn't interfere with the intake gasket surface.
and BTW, Bseries throttle bodies will bolt to Y8 manifold.

Why are you using the LS throttle body, and not a Z6 or Y8?

sorry for the shitty pic...my wonderful scanner turns everything into garbage.

this is a 96-98 d16y8 intake manifold with a 90-91 b18a1 throttlebody, a 99-00 civic si intake in a 88-91 civic/crx. IAT wires have to be extended around a foot or so...IACV wires might have to be extended a few inches also, check to make sure first. TPS plugs right in...stock MAP is used. can use stock obd0 IAT, but have to mount somewhere in intake...or rubber boot for aftermarket intake if you dont like cutting nonreplaceable things. or obd2 IAT can be used with correct plug and will fit in intake as shown. i used a reducer in the line to the dashpot on the TB...cause one plug is big and one is small.

note: i had to use the stock d16a6 throttle cable "crank doohicky thing" instead of the b18a1 disk...because it set the throttle cable at a wierd angle. i also used a 86-87 d15a3 (civic/crx si) throttle cable bracket...cause the upside down d16y8 one didnt fit right for me. also...my y8 manifold didnt come with a IACV so i used one from a 98 f22** accord. if you dont run coolant to it one from a 89 mpfi accord will work if flipped backwards. all injector gaskets are from d16a6, fuel rail is d16y8 and fuel line is d16y8 (but stock will work if aligned right).

the fast idle thermo valve is unplugged from the harness and not used at all on the y8 manifold...it will not throw a CEL.

make sure to check TPS voltage...it will hold idle, i promise.

I didn't know 1st graders could install a Y8 intake manifold. J/k. Good drawing, and nice info man.

That hels a lot man, thanks. I think I found my problem, I am running with no IAT sensor, a freind of mine gave me one, so im gonna try that tomorrow.

Just a update, I got rid of ALL my codes, now I just got to tune these injectors to get it to go away, teh bog. It pulls hard, and revs really nice and smooth wtih the lightened flywheel, and no noises, valves good, no knocks, haha, running VERY rich, even at idle, fouled 3 sets of plugs.

Any suggestions on what to do? I have both a VTEC controller(fields) and AFPR, and I have the fuel pressure at like 21 psi at idle, and it is the best I have had, but runs way rich still.. Im running DSM 450 CC injectors.

And a side note, how can you calculate compression, I have 240 PSI, all the way across, what does that equal? Around 11 to 1? If so, is this safe compression to run a 50 shot of nitrous, if not no biggie, i will just sell the kit?

i dont know about the fields...but i have read posts of someone idleing 450s with a safc, so id assume a vafc would work also. sorry i dont know about the fields though.

from my compression calculator:
any 88-00 d16 block/crank, d16z6 head, 88-89 d16a1 pistons, z6/y8 HG, with no head mill or block deck = 12.03:1 CR

if you had the head resurfaced they usually take off about 0.010" and that would be a 12.38:1 CR

..............nice
