Default Completely Racing OT, but current event relevant. Please read

Watching all the commotion here in the past 24 hours, and some of the rather funny aftermath, it occured to me that maybe the problem really is that we need to let off some pressure sometimes.
Sure, that's what the GDD forum and Kills forums are for, but let's face it, the membership there isn't quite as witty. And we don't know dem fools. And we are all quite elitist anyway.
So... How about a regularly scheduled, periodic Bizarro Day? Anything goes, no thread too silly, discussions of chirp controllers encouraged, prizes for the best personal attack, and the more poo slinging, the better. Mods will be encouraged to delete posts and threads at will, with no logic or justification required.
Basically, anyone wondering in from the outside will think they have stepped into a madhouse. (I know, what's the difference with any day?)
And of course, all silliness will have to stop at a pre-determined time.

Just a thought, bring some levity to the board, let people let loose. And make for some rather enjoying reading for those of us who are not quite as quick-witted (me, for instance)

Apparently alot of this has to do with the treatment of newbies - we're not the kind of place that many of them feel comfortable joining.

It kind of smells like a much hated "share of market" type thing to me. But I understand it.

Your suggestion reminds me of another episode of Star Trek - you know, the one with the Arkons and Landrew. You don't know what I'm talking about? Ah, never mind then.

Scott, who has watched other shows too...but I can't think of any good lessons to draw from Baywatch...

Awesome idea! Maybe twice a month, say the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, from 12:01 am to 12:00 pm Monday night. At the stroke of midnight, ALL THREADS that were created during this 24 hour caca-fest will be LOCKED! None deleted, for the sake of the sentimental or overly attached ones here who may want to copy and paste to their personal little notepads so they can savor their stinky creations forever.

I place my vote in the pot for a YES to this idea!

see, never was a big fan of Star Trek. enjoyed the movies when they came out (I was still quite young) but that's about it. More of a star wars kids guy...

Appealing to newbies is fine, we should try to bring new blood to this cesspool. But I think that the current (somewhat older) membership of this forum makes for an intimidating backdrop. Is that wrong? I don't think so, I like to think of it as a darwinian filter... always the ******* atheist, that's me.

I thought we already had that...generally called winter or off-season

well, that's true - but it's not officially labelled as such. and the general tension and pressure seems (expectedly) much higher during the season. Just trying to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. You know, thinking out of the box. And since I need at least one more cliche to make it a trifecta, I know damn well things won't change until pigs fly - but I can always try, can't I? Besides, my boss is out of the office today.

Gee I dunno'. The last time I tried to bring some levity to the board (playfully, IMO, suggesting that the fabled "pyramid of speed" might need some additional resolution) it touched some raw nerves. As long as everybody went along and nobody took it too seriously...

Richard - Who would like to see RR/A occasionally be closer to the pointy end of the "pyramid of humor".

ahhh, but you see, you were being too subtle. 'round here, you have to be heavy handed with the humour. I daresay ham-fisted. Otherwise, you are bound to be taken seriously. Goes back to the whole "hard to read body-language over the internet" kinda thing.
Monty Python is a better model around here than Dennis Miller (although there are plenty of somtimes obscure - to me - references flying around)

Do we get to see more hot, half naked cartoon chicks posing on hoods of cars? If so, I'm in.

Trivia question: John, what was the first name of every alien in that movie?

part of the attraction of this forum (for me) is the level of maturity, the in-depth technical discussions, and the lack of irrevelant/mundane topics ever present in other forums (EG+ Civic) and other boards (clubsi). i can barely bring myself to duck in clubsi anymore (other than to look for parts) and only go into EG+ to make fun people.

perhaps we need a "rr/ax uncensored" or "rr/ax free-for-all" in addition to the current "rr/ax." i would hate to ruin or potentially ruin my favorite forum. it's hard enough hanging out here and not knowing any of the members personally and keeping up with the politics. to this day i'm still shy about posting any questions or contributing in fear of getting slammed by a senior (.RJ!).

rr/ax is mature, eliteist, at times obnoxious, and i love it.

speaking of that, it is spelled "elitist", dammit. You know, there is a spell checker built in to the board... right next to the "QUOTE" button.

Leave me alone Greg. Can't you tell by the strong odor of insense that I'm meditating on winning this weekend?
