You'll need an OBD-II reader. No using a paper clip on an EP3 or DC5...

I got one at autozone for about $150. There are some cheaper ones out there.

Actually there is a method to checking the CEL codes by using a paper clip and counting some blinking lights, but I forget...

Hmm, there used to be on old cars. But on an OBD-II system? I don't think there is. Let me know if you figure it out.

One of the pins in the data link connector can be grounded, and it will flash just like the older hondas with the paperclip. It is called SCS mode. I dont know what pin it is though...

Is there a serivce connecter or the 01+ cars? If so jump it. That's how you do every other honda from about 88-00.

It is not true that you cannot check the CEL on an OBDII car because in the ear 2000 OBD was in the Civics. I recall checking the CEL on a 2000EX successfully. Do you mean that EP3 chassis do not allow this method of checking codes?

it can still be done just that there is no scs connector on 01+ civics

Jump pin#1(BRN) to pin#12(BLK) at the 16pin dlc connector....

it's pin#1 on the left row to the 4th pin up on the right. that's the way to do it in a dc5
