too many switches
Ok, i have been thinking and it seems like a million things in my car, are/are going to, be controlled by toggle switches. Since i dont want my car to look like a cockpit to an airplane. I was thinking of ways i could have equal control without so many swithces. Well one idea that was inspired to me from an ad in Sky-mall on a recent flight. I had the idea to use a numerical key pad to send commands to a sort of switch box behind the dash. Now to control things you would put in a certain code hit enter and it would know what to turn on and off. I figuer this would save room as well as give a sweet control to accesorys/functions. Any thoughts on wether or not this would work.

anyways unless u really want to invest on a really advance piece of equipment like that... i say go for it... but when it comes down to troubleshoot it and fix any jerk off problems its going to give, its going to be a pain
what kind of controls u want???
fan,relays, fogs,etc????

Well a huge variety actually, fan, underbody neon, under dash neon, n2o, ignition possibly, litteraly anything could be controlled. Like you could hit 2-4-8-enter and it could turn it on. hit the buttons again and it would turn off. Also i fig if its possible for me to build it i would know it well enough to trouble shoot. But the advantage is it could controll hundreds of things with one small control.
thats just the thing though i dont want a bunch of switches. And also dont want it to look stock, clean yes but stock no. Also the advantage of this is that ist could controll hundreds of things everything from brake lights to wiper speeds. Or hwo cool would it be to start your car by putting in a code. Also i dig the hex at the bottom of your post, whats it to?

LOL... I was just saying man... its gonna be a bitch to get it all setup and I bet you will have alot of shorts and fire hazards while wiring it all up... but it can be done... good luck and keep me updated!

i dont think fires will be much of a problem. If i wrong fill me in. I think the biggest problem will be getting a comp set up that will process the incoming code and know what "switch" to flip. A common example are those garage door openers that you put the code in and it check it against the set code, then if its the same sends the command to open the garage. SOmething like that but more complex. Where it checks the code against a list of aproved then only follows the command that the code was approved for.
