The Racer's Group (Unichip)
Has anyone heard of this or even tried it? It is supposedly a piggyback computer that's hooks up to your ECU. The system is dyno-tuned to your car? Seems interesting.

Yep, I have one. It worked pretty well. The best option IMHO for a piggy-back system.
Here's a plot from when I first got it with stock cams:
FYI, their dyno reads really low, on the order of about 30hp, compared to a dynojet.

Thanks alot man! How much was the total ? What exactly is the advantages of using the Unichip compared to something like V-FAC in tuning or even Hondata? Do you think its worth it? Thanks again!

Well, the Hondata is by far the best option of all. I like the Unichip better than the VAFC because it modifies fuel and ignition, and it can have different values for all the load points that are in the stock tables. It doesn't control VTEC cross-over however.
I think the total was something like $700 installed. When you consider that includes a full dyno tune, it's not too bad.
The way it's tuned is really pretty cool too. They use a load type dyno to hold the car at the specified rpm and load. The programmer has two ***** to control fuel and ignition. While looking at a large digital readout of the HP being generated, they tune the ***** until the highest number is reach. When they get it where they want it, they hit one button to store those settings in memory.

I've seen it, and it looks pretty cool...4 wires that connect into your wire harness, you tune it, play with the dials for fuel and timing while running on the dyno, find the point that you want hit enter and that point in the fuel map is modified and saved, on to the next point...it's something that someone that is developing a forced induction unit could package with their changes premade for timing and fuel and have the installer tap 4 wires for an easy installation...trying to beat around the information that I have.
If I had the option of Hodata or Unichip I would go with the Hondata hands down.

our shop has done it a lot, we are one of the distributor in Australia. Unichip gives very impressive figure to the R, it is far better than VAFC, but VAFC got the look and UNICHIP is just a piggy bag that doesnt have any display. (need software in your laptop to dyno tune it).

The website is http://www.theracersgroup.com. In there site, they recommend shops to do the work. You could get it installed and tuned by a professional tuner. The thing that impresses me the most is that a fellow Accord owner (yes I also have a '99 V6 Accord) got something like 22 hp and 26 additional ft.lbs of torque from a completely stock motor (at the wheels). That's amazing!! I just want to see how much potential our stock R's have!!

since there's no read out display or even vtec crossover.. i was curious.... since i already have a VAFC and haven't installed it yet.... can i use the unichip and the VAFC at the same time.... just have the unichip do all the fuel and timing while my vfac does the vtec and display radings?
Yes, you can use both, although I wouldn't connect the VAFC to any of the map wires. If it's anything like the Field it should work fine only hooked up to VTEC.

I have the Unichip system and I love it. With my jrsc, I baselined at 172whp. With the v-afc I hit 193whp. With the Unichip I hit 200whp, and more importantly, with a much stronger midrange. I highly recommend it.
And it does have the ability to change the v-tec crossover.

I got 200whp with the unichip alone. I sold my v-afc, BTC and J&S. The unichip has an expandable port if you desire v-tec crossover control. Someone with Hondata showed that lowering the v-tec point to around 5000rpm on a jrsc'd ITR will yield another 10-15whp in the midrange. Sounds like a worthwhile option to me.
