Default Bye Bye Blue Box, But What's an Alternative?

Well since im getting another motor since i blew 2 piston rings in my current one(compression test was 4 - 65 , 3 - 110 , 2 - 200 , 1 - 200), I want to ditch the blue box since i hear alot of horror stories about it. But what can i use? I have a sohc d16y7/y8 mini me in there now but a complete d16y8 is probably going to be going in there. i have the greddy 15g kit. What can i use as an alternative to the dreaded blue box?

How did you blow your engine while using the Blue Box?

V-AFC Hack, Zip's SMC 500, or Hondata.

Unless you are running aem or hondata, I would keep the blue box. Once again the blue box is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be... Way better than an fmu set-up, and much more reliable if you plan on boosting over 7-8 psi. I have not had good luck with a fmu set-up over 8 psi.. You could always try an afc-hack

im not sure if im going to do the install on my new engine or if im going to have a shop do it, but if i keep the box and since i only plan on boosting maybe to 8 psi(its at 6psi right now) would it be worth it to have an auto dyno'd?

I would recommend the Hondata, I think you are in the same state as
boosted hybrid who tunes Hondata. I personally would go that route if you want to boost 8psi. I am waiting for my Hondata to come in to have it tuned on my wife's 98 Civic SOHC with the Apex Kit looking for 9psi with 440's.

I was advised by a Hondata tuner that for the setup I am using to get 440's. The fuel pump was not needed. It's definetly not plug and play but like I was saying earlier, in your area you have a good tuner...

I am not sure how far he is from your exact location. But I think it should be Boosted Hybrid That's his screen name

Can Hondata control an automatic tranny?

devonic has an auto...so unless it can, Hondata isn't a real possibility.

So run VAFC Hack for a while til you can afford. That's what I'm doing. All you need for VAFC Hack is:

1.VAFC
2. 450CC injectors
3. 4 10ohm resistors(or resistor pack from crx)
4. Walbro 255 Fuel pump.

The hack is perferct for a fix if you already have all the gear, if not then you might as well go for the Hondata. By the way Import Parts has a good deal on the Injectors right now for HT members. Oops forgot he has an Auto..... Well there's the Hack and EMS>
