Default Integra the way to go?

Hey all I'm 15 right now, I am deciding on the car to get for when I turn 16. I am leaning toward a 2 door 94-00 Integra LS either off of ebay or autotrader...or just one for sale somewhere. I am wanting to be the fastest car at school, I am currently saving for my turbo right now. I am wondering if this is the way to go with the teg. Or would I be better with something else? 240sx? I know this is a honda forum but I would like to have your opinions... I need something cheap with good quality, not anything above 10 or 12 grand.

Maybe you should get a license first.

You should really focus on seat time before trying to be fast. No offense but that's just asking for your insurance to skyrocket and your driving record ruined.

The ls wouldnt be a bad idea if you want to go turbo or sc or possibly even a ls/vtec. The 240sx you could turbo the not-so-fabulous stock engine, but the s13/s14 is also is a great candidate for an engine swap. sr20det and rb25det are great engines to make hp.

Also the integra is fwd, the 240 is rwd. You would be "safer" learning to drive fwd imho. Go rwd if you want to have some fun and are willing to reap its potential.

Alright, First off congrats on going for your license. Hopefully you are a responsible driver. Remember that your license is a privilage and to keep racing on the TRACK. Thats the key with this whole thing. Because if you race on the street your going to kill someone or yourself. Or you'll be fishing out money to pay off your tickets.

Second, An LS integra and a turbo kit is a very good choice. You'd get more valuable info in the forced induction forum. But first I suggest driving the car stock and getting used to it. Then, upgrade your suspension. Then, work on the turbo. Maybe take a racing course / driving course for racing.

Go to the track stock and figure out how to race on the track because its different then the street......

First get used to the road and driving a car. Then think about what you want to do. don't go killing yourself to be the fastest person in school. Because nobody will remeber that when your 20. But people will remember you dying at 16 because you wanted to have the fastest....

goodluck man. and welcome to H-T

your first car a teg, a teg? WTF, i had a 91 sundance, sky blue, what a beautiful piece of ****.
for your first ride, get like a 1990 lude or crx, get a manual, drive it for like 3 months or so, then move up to like a gsr.
this will tech you about cars, you will learn a manual, and i would hate to see a noob ruining and riding that clutch.

dude im 17 and my first car was a teg i got it right b4 i turned 16...yes i know im lucky i am reminded every day when i turn the car on but anyways...dont go sayin "i wanna be the fastest in school" and all that **** man...get used to driving first like everybody has said...whats the point of being the fastest at school? so u can get out of the damn parking lot before everybody else? set a real goal buddy....start out with small performance mods like breather mods such as intake or exhaust, then move on up and have the turbo be your big thing you do, you dont want to do that first because it will cost you a pretty penny...no i take that back, it will cost u 300000+ pretty pennies! you dont wanna have your first mod done and then everything is downhill from there do u? do u even know enough about turbo's to just slap one on? it requires maintenence and KNOWLEDGE KNOWLEDGE KNOWLEDGE....if your serious about an integra, join team-integra.net you learn a lot of good **** from tehre.....good luck

I'm 17 here, my Teg was my first car. I have a 4-door LS. It used to be my dad's. We pay about $500 a year for insurance! Here's an idea to look into: a 4-door Teg, especially and LS but there are also GSR's. If you have to pay your own insurance, you'll be glad you thought about these. They have as much style as the coupes and are a lot less common. Mechanically the coupe and sedan are the same. Room for nookie too

Thanks to vwong for his pictures.

You're a little too hard on the kid

Anyways, my second car was an Integra. My first mistake was buying a BMW, which was too expensive and too hard to maintain. I bought my teg when I was 17, and have had it for three years. Without a doubt, definately a good starter car. It's easy to mod, pretty peppy and very well built. It's also easy to work on, and most jobs you will learn to do it yourself if you hate paying a mechanic like I do. Good luck with it.

Oh I forgot the meat and potatoes of my post.

1.) STREET RACING IS STUPID AND BAD. Take it to the track. Discover autocrossing. These cars have very good suspensions - use them, turn the wheel.
2.) FAST CARS + YOUNG DRIVERS = BAD. I'd say a good policy is that you should only be making your car faster when in second gear with the pedal to the floor you truely feel the urge to get out and push. Learn to drive. A stock LS, or an LS with boltons, is plennnnty fast for anyone just starting out driving. Better to have a bolton LS driving around than a turbo LS wrapped around a gaurdrail. Cars can kill you.

3.) NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE. This should be self explanatory. You don't do it, and your friends don't do it when you can stop them. Trust me, your parents will be HAPPY if you ask them to pick you up drunk or call them and stay at your buddy's instead of driving drunk.

some people are just better off financially then others - so who cares if someones first car is a turbo ls or a cavalier.

BUt anywayz, boostin an LS is a good idea. Spend bout 7-8 on a nice clean teg and put the rest in engine mods.

First off: More than likely no one will care except for maybe your immediate friends how fast your car is. If you want popularity from your car then you go with visual and audio modifications. Body kit, lights, rims, wing, amp + subs, stereo, speakers, tinted windows, cf hood (depends) and all that stuff.

In my experience looks and sound are what get the girls to want rides from you. And putting turbo into your car won't do the trick. Chances are you will blow your motor are crash your car. You need to reinforce everything else to support that kind of power upgrade and believe you me it is a lot. If you haven't read on this site much you may have missed the recent post about a young man that died right after getting his turbo in. You have to learn to handle that kind of power.

As someone else said you start by getting your license. If you want to start modifying right away go small. Compared to any other mod besides nitrous I believe a turbocharger hauls the most horsepower. So before you go slapping one into whatever you buy learn your car and how it handles, how it feels most importantly and take notice to how it changes when you put in more power. Start small and work your way up and you will understand how adding and removing parts manipulates the "feeling" of the car.

In the end your instincts and skills will be your best friend and they cost nothing but time and experience.

I say you should buy a CRX or a SOHC civic and just keep it stock and learn alot about the car, oil changes and just maintanance things, drive that thing for like a year then buy a teg and you will appreciate it alot more

P.S. - a teg isnt a good car for the first time driver, insurance will rip you a new one the size of the pacific

Hey man its me Miles (3vilMonkey!) This is my sister's boyfriends sn...The reason my age says that is because it said I couldnt post more than 5 per 24hr (why im on this) and it said I'm a trial user...I figured it had to do something with age, so if you tell me why I can only post 5 a day and why I'm a "trial user" I'll change it back to 15

Its me miles, on this because my trial user and 5 posts a day... so yeah, I already know how to drive a standard, my sis and her b/f (this sn) took me out in her 99 civic and I did it my first time, didnt stall, didnt grind or anything bad. It was funny because it took my sister about a month before she could get the car in motion without stalling afterward.

Like everyone else has said, get acquainted with driving in general. Get to know your car and how it reacts to certain conditions. Learn from me, I had my gs-r for 5 months before I totalled it. I didn't know how the car would behave in the situation I was in and it didn't do what I thought it would.
It's also important to know what you're getting into whenever you want to do something with your car. You'll save a lot of time, money, and stress if you do your homework.
I'm 19 by the way, graduated in '02. I had a '97 Corolla all throughout high school. When you get out, you realize that none of that **** matters. It would've been nice to have had a nice car in high school, but if that's how you're trying to win respect, you need to make some adjustments.
As for the LS idea, I think it's great. I almost want to get one just to experience having a boosted LS. Your other idea is nice too. 240sx's will probably get less attention from police, haha. Plus they aren't "wrong wheel drive" as many would say.
