How To: Cleaning Air Filter
Can anyone tell me how to clean my air filter for my aftermarket shortram intake... I've never cleaned if before, had the intake for like 9 months, probably not too good and damn sure isn't keeping the performance right? Anywho, can you just clean it or do you need to buy a whole new one? sorry for the noob question guys.
Go get yourself a K&N cleaning kit, follow the instruction, and most importantly SPRAY THE FILTER WITH THE PROVIDED OIL ONCE IT IS COMPLETELY DRY AFTER 24 HOURS.
The oil part is most important.

The K&N filter is designed to be oiled with their oil only. It helps trap particles. The trapped particles are a key to how the filter works. K&N has a lot of material online about it. How often-K&N says 50,000. I do mine at 25k and that is more than good enough if you live here in the Northeast and do not drive in really bad air.
Do NOT rush the cleaning process. Do it on a nice hot day so that the element is really dry before oiling. Then wait overnight so that the oil is dry. You will have to measure the tube and then match your existing element to a K&N.
