ITR/Stang GT
i was just at the track today and a GT ran a 14.7, i believe it was stock..at the same track i ran a 14.5 with just AEM...i think he bogged though.. it really is all in the driver.
its the new Cobra you have to watch out for its running 0-60 in 4.8 and doing the quarter in the mid to high 13s. The way it should be. To those who laughed at the 4.6L motor, i say ha. It can only get better.
however the 00 cobra sucks! Its slower then the GT!!!!!! Ford screwed up and really messed up the engine. Once they realized it, they offered a kit to fix the performance flaw to make the 00 cobra better. Anyway the new cobra (with dark headlights and mag rims) rocks!! Its fast yet its a ford and the quality sucks.
Anyway for specs and compairison I raced a new GT with my dad in the car (170lbs?) and my full 140+lbs stereo and got 6-8 car lenghts on it. I took it up to 110mph, then backed off and shut it down. The stang owners were going crazy when they eventually caught up to me. lol I never knew that I could kill one so bad! Heck and I even shifted at the stock rev limit which is about 225whp at 8400rpms. At 9k rpms I'm at 235whp according to my old inaccurate dyno chart. Not bad!!!
Anyway side note, I'm heading to the drags for the 1st time on Wed. I will finally see what this bad boy does. Hopefully once I learn to launch the car perfect, I will get killer times!

check out the kill forum, there is a similar post. To sum it up, the new GT runs consistant [b]14.0's</> bone stock, which means there is no chance unless heavily moded. -C
I raced a GT Mustang the other night in Houston, on 610 heading towards the Galleria, from I-10 West. Earlier, he would not let me by in the left lane. So as he switched into the 2nd from the left, I downshifted to 4th and started to take off. As he saw me catching up, he started to go. I blew past him, with at least a car length going 115. Then I shifted to 5th, and I noticed he was still behind me at 125. I had to cut it short since my exit was coming up...but I held him off. I don't know what would have happened if I kept on going straight, but I did notice he was gaining a little ground. Hope that helps.
Well I can tell you from first-hand experience. But anyways, my friend and I found a long, unoccupied straigtaways near some factories. (I know, its street-racing). He has a '00 Mustang GT) but has a MACH Cold Air Intake (prolly the best intake for the Mustang) and mine was stock. Another friend stood outside and prompted us to go. In the first race, I had the launch and beat him by two carlengths. In the second race, I had the launch and beat him by a half-car length. Third race, I bogged and he killed me by two car-lengths. All in all his car is fast. Everytime I'll get the launch I could hear him coming. If this was at the 1320, he would always beat me, but only by a half car length or so. By the way, did I mention my R was stock? So if I had some basic bolt on's I could probably take him in the 1320.

I have seen stock GT's at the track run mid 14's to high 15's and convertible GT's run 15's or even 16's.
Stock for stock most type r's should take them depending on the driver.

i got a 97 covert cobra nad i have never had a problem with it. Just synchros and they warrentied and fixed it in less than a day. But ive never had a problem with my R yet so it remains to be seen

I had a 98 Cobra for a year. Never a single problem. My ITR and S2000 rattle more than the Ford and both have required trips to the dealer to fix minor flaws. You are fooling yourself if you think your Honda is built better.
Steve.. I am thinking maybe if you kept the Mustang longer, you would realize that it would NOT have been built as well as an Integra. I am more specifically refering to longevity. I believe that a stock ITR motor will last longer than a stock Stang motor. IMO, its a 100k mile motor VS. like a 200k+ mile one.
Just my opinion,
Jon
I thought they had a mis-cast intake manifold port(s), and a significant bottleneck in the exhaust around the rigged-up IRS. I do respect Ford as a domestic company that finally used DOHC 4v heads, though. Japanese cars are built with far higher quality than any domestic. People make money teaching Japanese manufacturing methods to american companies.
How long ago was it when an american built and engineered car won LeMans overall? How about a Formula One race?
There is no way a mustang has higher structural rigidity than an ITR or S2000.
You are fooling yourself trying to tell us your Fords are built better. What minor flaws are you talking about in the ITR or S2000?

BS flags going up all over the place. During the ITR expo when me and ITR 1236 raced you you sure didnt put any carlengths on us and I dont put that many carlengths on GT's. Not trying to be a bitch and if you really did beat him, please explain.
Factors that allowed you to win:
Rims
you had 15" volk TE-37 8lbs (if I remember correctly)
Mike had 15" stock rims 15lbs
Tires
you had Nitto NT-555R drag radials and did burnouts to heat them up(not sure what psi they were set at)
Mike had the Yokohama A032R road race/autocross tire set at 35 psi
I am not saying any of this to flame, or defend Mike, just stating the facts so that the truth about the setups are made aware.
Jon - about the stangs, it's all driver dependent.
Austin
real quick....
hey, I just saw what you posted. I have no reason to lie to anyone on this board. I like the GT's myself. All I'm saying is that a week before the expo on the way to get my dad fitted for his tux for my sisters wedding a new (smoked lights and mag rims) GT pulled next to me. We rolled going 5mph around the 90deg turn onto the expressway and I was on the inside of the turn. Once we both completed the turn we took off. He got ahead start since he was on the outside and could get out of the turn faster then I could. WE both took off in 1st gear. I pulled a few feet ahead of him in first. Once second came I pulled about 1.5 car lenghts on him. In 3rd it came to about 4 car lengths or so. Anyway when I hit 110mph I backed off and noticed that I was about 8 car lengths ahead. I coasted from that point and they finally caught up about a few seconds later. They waved and asked if I was blown and I said yeah and they took off in the other direction. If you don't believe me then fine. Heck I have nothing to gain or lose with you not believing me. That night when I raced you I had a broken header gasket with no exhaust which hurts power (yet that wasn't the reason I lost). If you noticed when the flagger said go, my car spun the tires and by the time they hooked up in VTEC you were already a car length or more ahead. The tires I had are track tires and not drag tires. The weight factor in rims might also have helped you, yet I highly doubt it would make that big of a difference. Its all about launch and weight. Maybe if I had 555's with no air and heated up I would have been able to launch like you... Just a thought. BY the way I'm dragging this Wed night at Sac raceway...
gotta go and party
