Need a new ecu

My stock 98 civic ex ecu needs to be replaced any ideas on what to change it with?

why does it need to be replaced, some details would help determine what is the best thing to get.

I've been having problems with the check engine light and one of the possibilities that the dealer told me was that it could be a problem with the ecu. I was having problems before i put after market stuff on.
