Just blew my stock engine have some questions.
ok heres the deal yesterday i was driving and i mean the rain came down! well to make a long story short, my aem intake sucked in alot of water and broke a rod.. im not to upset since it was only a DX engine. Well my question is can i pull the DX engine alone out (leaving the tranny etc. in) and can i drop an EX engine in its place. Would i only need to buy a EX ecu or what? any help would be great. thanks!
it would be easier to just remove the whole setup and drop in the ex motor tranny and ecu. the ex gearing is better than our dx tranny gears. it isnt that expensive to begin with so do the whole swap.
It would be easier to swap the whole DX motor out and replace it with an ex motor. What you would need is to do is get an EX ECU and wire a vtec line in so that your vtec my engage. Other than that I think that's all you need. Maybe some other wiring issues but I'm not sure.
Since I am assuming your car is an DX you don't have to worry about ABS axels and that crap. Engine mounts should be the same.
Correct me if I am wrong someone.

the ex ecu should take care of the V Tec wiring

No the EX ECU will not take care of the vtec wiring, you still need to run wiring since the dx engine harness does not have it, dx eng is not vtec...

get you the z6 motor bolt it on get the ECU put it in if you can afford the EX harness buy it inside and out. if you can't run the VTEC wires.

you'll also have to run a wire for a knock sensor too, DX don't have them.
i just blew 2 pistons in my dx motor too, but i already have it all wired up for the ex motor/tranny im getting since i had a mini me swap in it.

Depends on the year. I think I remember one of the years all the models came wired for VTEC from the factory even if they didn't have VTEC.

the easiest way to do it would be to get a complete ex swap, complete with the wiring harness. if your car is a 96-98, make sure the engine and wiring harness is a 96-98, if its a 99-00 then get a 99-00 engine. if you get the correct year the engine harness will just plug in. make sure to get the ecu too.

92-95 sohc vtec's didn't have knock sensor's so you don't have to worry about that, and you won't have to do any wiring at all as long as you get a 92-95 civic ex engine wiring harness just plug that in and plug the p28 ecu(92-95ex ecu) and you'll be set. It's easy as pie.

What the hell do you guys mean when you say they are wired for vtec, do you even know what you are guys are talking about, or did you hear this off some other dude. Just clear up what the hell you guys are talking about.

pull out the whole thing it's easier besides you might as well change clutch flywheel release bearing etc etc while you have the engine out and if you got the cash 4.9 final drive and quaife LSD
