Default OK is there a difference with a AUTO JDM B16. and a MANUAL JDM B16?

i hear that there might be a difference with the cams then i hear there is nothing diferent at all.

then i hear that there is single valve springs on the auto B16.

and single valve springs on the exhaust side of the manual but on the intake side it has dual.

can someone end this argument already?

from what i have seen, auto b16a have weaker retainers that tend to fail above 8000rpm.

what about the XSI motor? would you guys take that over a B16A1 manual?

people say its basically a b16a2 with odb1 and a cable Ys1 tranny.

which would you guys take out of the 3?

B16a XSI manual? B16a1 manual? B16a2 auto motor, manual tranny?

oh and its going into a 88 crx HF

1989-1990 XSi have a normal B16A1
1990-1992 XSI have a B16A2
I believe all XSI gearboxes are cable: Y1 S1 and J1
B16A Manual and XSi manual are the same thing, I would take both over an auto motor and I would take a b16a2 over all of them.

I usually just refer these questions to katman, he's like the JDM guru.
Two thumbs up for katman.

i got this info off of hmotorsonline.

30002 - B16A 92-93 Integra (XSi) Complete Change Over
170Hp 113Trq 10.4 Compression (JDM OBD I)

30004 - B16A 92-00 (SiR-II) Complete Change Over
170Hp 113Trq 10.4 Compression (JDM)
160Hp 111Trq 10.2 Compression (USDM)

now i know the B16a2 is ODB2. and the B16A XSI is ODB1 but how is it other wise any different from the b16a2 2nd gen.

and besides the YS1 tranny which is listed under the specs off of HMO. they offer the YS1 tranny with the XSI swap.

so why would you take the A2 over the XSI?

looking at the specs the only difference is the YS1 tranny and it being ODB1.

Only ITR and CTR have dual valve springs on both int and exh.

You're right about the valve springs, the autos miss out on dual intake springs.

Gen 1 XSi's are non OBD

How come you guys distinguish between an XSi motor and B16a1 and a2? they're the same depending on year unless you're talking about USDM models which I have no idea about.
After all, the B16a was born in an XSI

luckily, i have purchased 4 b16's. 2 b16a 5spd, 1 b16a auto & 1 b16a2 auto. the first gen b16 auto had single valvesprings on both the intake and exhaust side. the cams were also, noticeably smaller. but, the b16a2(JDM) was a different story. the exhaust cam was small, but, the intake cam was large(maybe a bit bigger than the b16a 5spd) & the intake side had dual valveprings. this motor had not been modded at all, and had all the oem parts and such. i have come to realize that jdm motors has numerous differences, probably, more than we think. as for retainers, i can't see honda making two different types of retainers for this mass produced engine, and if you've inspected b series motors, the only retainer that i have seen to be any different from the rest (b16a, b18c, b17a) is the b16b, which seems to have maybe an aluminum? style retainer.
