ok..i have a d16y8 in my 90 hatch. and i just purchase an IAT sensor today. i drilled a hole onto my intake coupling and stuck the IAT there..pluged it, reset ecu..and code is still there. what am i doing wrong? where should the IAT be? i did the search, and ive seen someone did the IAT on the coupling..thats how i did it.
i stuck the whole thing in.

what ecu are you running? stupid question but did you reset after you changed the IAT? check your wiring cause im guessing you had to extend the wiring for it.
you can run wire and drag it behind the car....as long as its plugged in there should be no code!

I used a OBD0 IAT on my Y8 and just pluged it into the intake mainifold held in place with some zip ties. Test it....sig has shop manual for codes 0-20 see if the IAT sensor is good. I'm not sure if you can use a OBD2 IAT with OBD0 but I may be wrong.

yes you can
...i am running one with a 99-00 civic si CAI. just use the obd2 plug when lengthening wires.
i tested an obd0 and obd2 iat and both had about the same resistance at different temperatures...ie hot, cold and room temp. they werent exact but even 2 obd0 iats werent exact...they are all close to the same resistance though.

how did you plug it into the manifold? did you T fit to one of the vaccum lines?
and yes i reset my ecu.
how can i find out if my IAT is messed up.. or the plug is messed up? thanks.
how do i check for resistence? i just read your sig about the shop codes.

Drilled a hole in my CAI and put a zip tie around it thru the orginal mounting holes and put the accual sensor in the hole. yeah just click on the link in sig and will have a list of codes you click on that link under the code and will pull up a page for testing. Will need a normal multi meter and that it
I drilled into my PVC adaptors for my homemade CAI when I had my D16Y8. slipped it in, screwed it in place, it worked fine (btw it was an OBD-O IAT with P28 ECU).

thats exactly what i did..cept i screwed it on the intake coupling..i reset my ecu like about 3 times..and code still there.. i reset it taking off the negative on the battery, taking out the fuse from hazard, and taking out the fuse off the ecu..

you had to extend the wires for the IAT right? if you have it plugged in and still have a code after properly reseting the ecu then - its your wiring, the IAT is bad or your ecu just took a ****. go to the juckyard and fill your pockets wit IATs

someone must have if its the origional engine harness. cause the wires would never reach over to the other side of the engine bay without being lengthened.
did it throw a code 10 before you put in the new IAT? or is that why your putting in a new one?

what you mean about reaching across the engine bay?? wasnt the 88-91 IAT behind the IM??
yes it was throwing a code 10 before i had the IAT..thats why i got one to get the check eng light off..

Be careful, I told him to check his wiring too and he responded with "I DID NOT WIRE THE CAR UP, IT CAME THAT WAY"
It's all good, Sonny is cool but hardheaded....

4 G civic si : "what you mean about reaching across the engine bay?? wasnt the 88-91 IAT behind the IM?? "
The IAT on my 89 Civic SI motor was on the right side (crank pulley side) of the intake manifold. Now if u put the sensor on the intake pipe coulping, that would mean it has to be moved to the other side of the inatke manifold (flywheel side of the motor), therefore lengthening of the wires is needed. My guess is that there is a break in one of the 2 wires. But the only way the wires wouldnt have to be lengthened is if the previous owner opened up the loom and took out those 2 wires and cut them shorter, which means a break in the wire is still possible...get what im sayin? Most likely theres a break in the wires.
im unsure of the location of the IAT on DX motors...

Its in the same place as most other motors in the intake runner

thank you very much for the info. that helped a lot without someone smart mouthing me. ok..this is what i found out earlier today, on the vtec solenoid..there is the green plug/sensor...which is i believe the oil pressure or knock sensor?..anyhow, the idiot that wired the engine..he hooked up the IAT plug to that..but theres also another circle plug thats exactly the same as the IAT plug.. the IAT plug wires are green and orange (or red) right? cuz i checked on my friend's car..then theres that other circle plug which has orange and black wires..but then again..i pluged the IAT sensor onto the plug that has the green and orange wiring coming out..still have code..i reset the ecu with all the method there is..so i guess my best bet is to check the wiring..but what would the other circle plug be?

What a jumble of words bro. The green circle connector on the VTEC solenoid is the VTEC OIL PRESSURE switch, it should have 2 wires, one of which gets grounded and the other gets wired directly to the ECU. What do u mean he hooked up the IAT to that, like how did he do it?? When i did my wiring on my B17 OBD-1 motor i found that the GREEN WIRE off the IAT, GREEN WIRE off the coolant sensor (the one on the thermostat housing), O2 sensor GREEN WIRE, and EGR valve (if u have it, mine did not) GREEN WIRE were all spliced in together. And the other wire on the IAT went back to the ECU all by itself. I am guessing the wire colors on your IAT >>> I'm thinking you are gonna have to wire the RED? wire from the IAT back to the ECU in its correct spot and wire the other GREEN? wire in with any one of the other sensors i mentioned. BTW, what ECU and OBD are you running? Also i dont know what other "circle" plug u are referring to...i guess u need to be more specific when describing it and its location on the motor.

i am running pm6. the guy that wired my car hooked up the IAT plug into the oil pressure..i unplugged my oil pressure and vtec still works.. my ecu doesnt work with vtec..so i dont think the oil pressure was hooked up to the ecu.. ill try and get some pictures..
