Default Rusty Bolts!

My heat shield as well as many of the bolts that connect my header to the cat have been a victim of oxidization. Now they are going to take alot of wrenching to get them off. I heard someone on here used a gel/substance and that helped loosen them for the following day when the bolts were removed. Does anyone know what this, where you can get it or how much it costs?

I just pulled of the cat back exaust on a 95 ls and the bolts were completly oxidized on. I first cleaned the bolts off with a wire brush. Then i used WD40, then Liquid Wrench with no luck. I took a propane torch and heated up the nut on the bolt for about two min. and it came off with not much effort.

yeah, the cleaning usually will loosen the bolts to some extent but the heat will help expand and further help your efforts.

Some WD40/PB Blaster and a long pipe slid over the ratchet will get them off with little effort.

There's this stuff from 3M that dissolves rust as well as protects from it in the future and acts as a penetrating fluid. I forgot the name of it and i'm not at home to grab the can, but anyway, works wonders.

It's called 5-way penetrant from 3M.
Here's a datasheet on it, as for where you pick it up though is beyond me. I got it from my gf's work and she works at a plastic supply company.
