Default Carrying a full-size "spare"

Just a thought here... When I got my CTR rims, I mounted up some Kumho 712's instead of swapping over my RE010's, which are still at about half-tread. I do take road trips in my R, and I just hit upon the thought of carrying one of the stock gunmetals with RE010 mounted as a spare. I don't want to be at the mercy of some "tar" shop in BFE if I catch a flat.

So with the RE010 being directional, I have a 50% chance of blowing the wrong tire. I don't want to carry two - that's just plain overkill. So question is, will it cause *that* much damage if I run a RE010 in the wrong direction for a couple miles? Will it impact handling that badly if I put it on the rear? I'd keep it reasonable - speed limit or less.

What do y'all think?

Tire does rotate even in wrong direction... as long as it's a few miles it shouldn't hurt your tire. (when you reverse, they go backwords. ) I have a friend (girl) who had her tires all rotating backwards... doh!

naw mang, i do a wheel rotation everytime i need to back up. that way the tread is going in the right direction.

doesn't everybody?

-k-b0t, who avoids going in reverse as much as possible..

Y'all know what I mean... Suppose I'm down at NOPI (hint hint, ITR-NC gang!), and some ricer jackhole slashes a tire. Is the 250-mile trip back home going to hose a RE010 that's rolling the "wrong" way?

the "belts" within the tyre will shift and move around but no biggy, worst case: the cords will align for the opp.rotation. I know this sounds off the wall but trust me.

F a dam ricer jackhole!!!

Pat, if that ever happens you can borrow any of my stock ITR rim w/ RE010's. We got you covered.

c00!! I surely do appreciate all these fine responses.

I was just curious, not just for NOPI, but for my other jaunts about the southeast. Reason I was wondering if it would hurt the tire/driveability --> The brainchildren at the "tar" store in W-S managed to get all four tires on my mom's convertible not only backwards, but flopped (they were rt/lft tires). Car drove like ***. I suppose just having one wompted corner won't be so bad.
