Default D15B question

I bought a 91 FH with a blown motor. My mechanic ordered a new "stock" engine for the car. The engine they sold him has a D15B written on it (and nothing else). I that a JDM (VTEC, 130hp )engine? and will it work with the stock ecu and wiring?

It sounds like you have yourself a JDM D15b. Take a pic if you can. Puthing this motor in you car will be Identical to puting in a D16Z6, so you can look into what is involved in that. There will have to do some wiring to get the full benafits of the swap. Do some research into a OBD0-OBD1 conversion. You may want to put in a better tranny (I.E. Si )

Do I need to get a different ECU for it?

no its not identical to the d16z6. The engine geometry is much better, though it does make roughly the same numbers. Its based loosely (or maybe not so loosely) off the d15z1 (civic vx) engine which is meant for fuel economy. its obd1.

I've got one coming in this week, gunna install it next week. I let you know how it goes since its obd1 and im odb0 much like yourself. I found out its an auto, shouldn't change too much, and i dunno about that whole weaker cam deal. If anyone has any proof its a weaker profile lemme know ill pop in the manual z6 cam i've got lying around.

Waht do I need to get in order to get the most out of this motor? Also, where can I get the wiring harness for obd0 to obd1 converision? What ecu is best for this engine? What tranny? Would the Greddy kit for 92- 95 civic ex work on this engine?
thanks in advance.

blown90hatch has the conversion harness, you can use the d16z6 ecu for the swap and use whatever tranny you want on it, dunno about th turbo

yes, you can use the d16z6 ecu. and like others said, you gotta go obd1. you don't need to worry about MPFI swap though, since its an HF and all (don't know if you knew that allready).

I didn't mean that it was like the Z6 mechanicly, but electronicly. Doing this swap will have the exact same procedure ans swaping in a z6.

So if you run into any posts on swaping in a Z6, read it.

yes thats the JDM d15b. unfortunatly you seem to have gotten the non-vtec version...these were also available in non-vtec. some also dont have vtec written on the valve cover, but they are a newer style engine. thats an old obd0 d15b, compairable to the d15b2

Thank you very much! Will that work with a stock 91 HF ECU or do I need to get another ECU? What ECU is optimal for that engine? Also, where can I find the specs on that engine?

It is a direct swap, no wiring problems Those numbers sound about right.
