Default I fear the worse....can you confirm?

Ok, so i had to remove my head to replace a piston that cracked. Everything went fine and dandy, i put it all back together, turbo, manifold, all that crap. New OEM honda headgasket.Torqued head bolts, and fired the bitch up.

Oil spewing a ton between the head and block, especially to the right of the oil filter, right near the oil breather chamber. I cleaned it up in that area, and started it again, and more oil spewed out. I also noticed that in the side of the engine where I can see more clearly, it was seeping out there.

I assume my headgasket got moved when I was putting the head on. I didn't have any help to ensure headgasket didn't slide around while i fit the head. Or could the headgasket be on upside down? But I thought everything lined up....

Also, after I assembled everything, it was a few days before I could start it cuz i had to get my downpipe fixed. I noticed a wee wee bit of oil in the corner of the head and the block....I cleaned it up and the next day it seemed to barely wee wee out again.... which leads me more to headgasket.

So looks like I gotta take the head off again, and do it all over. What do you guys think?

snce noone is responding... try reassembling everyhting again. Honda headbolts aren't strech-type bolts... so you can retorque them as many times as yuo want. you mght've put the headgasket on wrong.

or you might have scared (as in scar not frightened) the block at the spot whereit's leaking. check it out.

if honda headbolts aren't stretch type and you can retorque them why does arp sell so many studs? i agree with taking everything off and checking it again. make sure everything is cleaned off really well and reassemble. make sure you torque them in sequence in the right steps.

I assume no oil leaks before taking it apart? Sounds like it's time to take it apart and look everything over and try again. You sure everything is properly seated and nothing shifted or got between the head and block. Any idea why the piston cracked? Could it have caused some other damage that did not show until you took it apart? Just asking because a cracked piston without any other damage or external cause is unusual. Probably more common on the turbo cars though.

UP- should be on the head gasket, meaning this side up. A friend of mine accidently used a non vtec head gasket on a vtec motor, and leaked from the same spot. Did you torque them down to spec?

Honda head bolts do stretch. The rule of thumb is that you can use them 3 times.

Good luck

If you put the headgasket on upside down, you'll have the problem that you're describing.

Yeah, by comparing the UP on the old gasket to the spots it sticks out now, it looks like I put it in upside down

Damn, it was blood and sweat to get that big *** T3/T04e to fit

Good news. I was able to take off the head in like 45 minutes. Forget taking off the IM, the turbo manifold, and the accessory drive belts!

The gasket was upside down.

The correct way is with the UP on the exhaust side I see now. I cleaned up all the coolant and oil that was scattered.

Nurmi and gaskets just dont mix... First his headgasket and your IM gasket. Im sorry if i offened you by talkin about your BF, heven forbid you stopped being frineds with him cuz then there would be no one to wrench on your car... GOD FORBID, you might have to go out and buy your own tools or something.

Everyone ignore Moe. I've seen this kid in real life. He's pretty ugly, and his mom was pretty ugly too.
