Default Drove a fully-prepped DS ITR

....and i ******* loved it! what power! what brakes! what balance!!! with the custom shocks it feels just as stiff as my car with 400# springs up front!!

after feeling what a crappy lsd feels like I definetly wanna throw a quiafe in my car and run STX (until it dies, which will probably be soon )

i can't wait for the topeka pro! already have butterflies

Try driving an STX ITR that's actually had the suspension and motor done correctly

I pulled a car length (on Azenis) and was creeping away on Grainger's R last year at the Peru Pro (Challenge round). He seemed to think my R was illegal because he couldn't see how you could add that much power to the stock ITR. Actually, a lot of folks are under that impression for some reason.

The R is good out of the box, but there are some good (and all legal) ways to improve it if you know what you are doing. The STX car still does not have the stick in the corners though on street tires.

Nope! My motor is 100% stock... its just has bunch of expensive stuff attached to it.

Despite popular belief roller skating never died out and is still alive and well! I'll help you come to DSP if you help me get the other integras all on one line in DSP. Fair trade right?

This car you drove, it had custom Koni's?
And, is there truth to what I hear that the top level ITR guys use 225's in front for a national type event?

Also, do you think a 100,000km + stock ITR engine would be down on power in a DS situation, or is the power less of a factor?

hot set-up is 225 front 205 year. the miles won't matter so much at a tour, but you might notice the lack of power at a ProSolo. The selling point of the ITR is the LSD, w/o that it'd be no better than my Integra RS.

and you don't have to have custom shocks, the bilstein sports are pretty frickin' stiff for an off the shelf unit, just not adjustable.

I have the shocks, Lee hooked me up at Koni, but it will be my first visit at the Nationals in Topeka...I just want to prepared and have equal equipment.

So 225's are a must....does Hoosier service at this event and can I race on them without the customary scrub in period....?

you're asking the wrong person....I have minimal experience with R-Compounds...but i would assume that you would want to scrub them in, at the very least to remove the mold release compound.

Hoosier does service the event but you should call and place your order ahead of time. Also recognize that mounting 225 Hoosiers on our 6" rim is a huge pain. Many shops won't do it.

The Hoosier guys at Nationals will mount them but they don't love it and it might take a while. we run on Thu-Fri so if you get there early in the week it shouldn't be a problem to get them mounted but i would give it a day just in case they are backed up.

I plan on getting a new set before the event and running the warm-up event on Sunday to put a heat cycle on them. But Mike "Junior" Johnson feels that you can run on Hoosier stickers and have just as much grip as scrubs. This is unlike Kumhos which assuredly are greasy right out of the box.

bbqman - what Konis did you get (singles or doubles, custom valved or OTS)? If custom valved, how does the valving compare to OTS Koni singles?

Regards,
Alan

Alan,

thanks for the heads up on the service at the event. I was aware of the mounting difficulties as we install these tires here at our shop. I just wanted to know if the 225's were a must and wanted to confirm that stickers had all the grip (although the durability may suffer).
Is Sunday a test&tune?

Yes my Koni are the revalved/double adjustables. At the minimum settings, they ride almost as smooth as OE. When you crank the rebound up, its twice the shock most companies will offer. with the compression adjustments, the car thinks it has coil springs!!!!
However, up here in Canada , our running surfaces vary so much and are often rough....I can't quite establish a regular set up.

Kansas Region SCCA holds an a practice event on saturday and sunday before hand (during the pro solo finale). Registration is only by mail and fills up pretty quick. You can register for either day or both.

BBQ,
You might want to check with someone on the Hoosiers. I've heard that they are slicker than snot during the first two runs, but once they come in they are great. This is my first year on R compounds (Kumho), and this is what I heard. You might want to scrub them in a little before pulling up to the line.
Can someone familiar with this confirm/deny what I've heard about the Hoosiers?

I've been really happy with the 225/205 combo on the ITR. The car rotates nicely.

Good luck at Topeka. If you're running DS, don't let the 330 beat up on you too bad.

Michael.

from what i've heard, the 330 is only scary at Pro's. I'm worried about a certain blue IS300. Chris is finally starting to get used to the car and that car is faster in a straight line than teh almighty 330

Yes, they definitely need to be scrubbed-in. It usually takes only 1 or 2 runs before they're prime. I would recommend scrubbing them in either before hand at a local event or at the Sat/Sun warmup.
