EP3 oil. Need /20, or is /30 OK?
Wondering if I can use 5w/30 instead of the 5w/20 recommended in the owner's manual. I've only found one place that sells one brand of the /20 conventional, but I would like to use synthetic. I can't remember what the second number in the oil rating meant.
Thanks

Of course you can use it. Using 30 may cost you some gas mileage and the car may not idle as smooth/quietly with 30 from what I've experienced that is. But it can't possibly harm the engine at all - the oil in fact would just have better protecting properties in it than 20.
The 2nd # means viscosity.

I used Redline 5w20 for my first oil change. That stuff doubles as weight reduction on your wallet too...
I haven't found any other synthetic in 5w20. Running 5w30 won't hurt, it should be the most cost effective and definately the most convenient to find.

A lighter oil makes the RPMs go up faster - from what I've read here.
